Zanzibar Queen Hotel

This was one of my favourite hotels on my independent trip to Kenya and Tanzania. The grounds and pool area are lovely with lots of flowers and trees. It’s pretty much right on the beach at Matemwe so, even if you decide to lie on the beach sun beds, you’re only seconds away from the pool. The beach is lovely. The staff are very friendly, particularly in the restaurant. The food is also excellent. Every meal I had was delicious so would definitely recommend booking with dinner included. The only reason I scored this a 4 and not a 5 is for two quite important reasons: 1. The air conditioning is quite ineffective. I couldn’t get the temperature of the room down anywhere near to what it was saying on the thermostat. Usually this would lower my rating significantly but everything else was so nice about the hotel. 2. The pillows!! Such an important part of a good hotel experience, yet the pillows here were possibly the least comfortable of my trip. Overall, I would definitely recommend but need to sort out the last two points.

Our stay at the Zanzibar Queen Hotel was truly unforgettable. From the friendliest staff to the most delicious food - it truly exceeded our expectations. We did the Have It All offer and stayed in the beach front bungalow with plunge pool. When we arrived at our room we were blown away (the photos don't do any justice!). We were given a beautiful and delicious fruit plate as well as a complimentary bottle of sparkling wine to celebrate our honeymoon. The room was very spacious, extremely clean and the bed was comfortable. The room had A/C, a french press coffee maker, kettle, tea, a mini fridge with soda and beer (which was included in our package), robes and slippers. Not all drinks and menu items were included in the Have It All offer but we found that there was more than enough items to choose from. The food was absolutely delicious. Every morning there was a breakfast buffet with pastries, fresh juices, coffee, tea, salads, fresh fruit and an egg station that also had waffles and french toast. Lunch was a la carte and there were plenty of options. Most dinners were served as 3 courses but one night there was a BBQ with a live band (SO much fun) and another night there was a Swahili dinner with drummers from different local tribes which was very cool! Yoga was offered at the hotel which we did most mornings. We also had excursions included in our offer - we did the sunset cruise, snorkeling trip and massage. The snorkeling trip was amazing and the massage was the best massage we've ever had. The sunset cruise was an experience but it wasn't really what we were expecting based on the description. We can't wait to come back!

Everything with this stay was simply fantastic from we arrived to the end. They have arranged food even we arrived very late and kept the bar open as well, just for us. As a guest you felt that everybody did the best to make you happy🙏 We will be back 🦁☀️🦓🇹🇿

Very beautiful place, very clean. Staff very organized and helpful And yesterday there was a very good live band at the restaurant was playing some old classic rock song with Ukulele and Cajon… really impressive We really enjoy our stay Thanks

We stayed in Zanzibar Queen hotel for 2 weeks (still here, leaving on 23/12/2023). The hotel and staff - 10 out of 10. Facilities, cleanliness, services they offer - faultless Beach and area - clean, safe and very well maintained. Thank you!
