My fiancée and I had a lovely time here. It started from being picked up airport by the owners daughter. It was 60 euros for a trip that any taxi driver would have charged over 100 euros for. She was an utter delight and spoke to us for the entire hour long drive. The room was stunning. We were even upgraded to a bigger room at no extra cost. It’s right in the center of Martano with restaurants and cafes all around it. The staff were excellent and our stay was enjoyable. The history was amazing and the vibe was excellent. A few minor things let it down though. For one, the shower would only stay warm for about 2-3 minutes before going cold. Martano does not have any transport links. This meant that unless we hired bikes we had to walk to the station if we wanted to go somewhere. The nearest station is Zollino which is an hour and half’s walk. This was fine for me and my fiancée but could understand why this might not work for others. We tried to hire bikes but when we said that we would be taking a long trip to Otranto the mother said they might not be good for that and to ask the daughter. We didn’t end up hiring the bikes. They did book a spa day for us in Otranto which was awesome. The hotel claims to have 24 hour service but often when we went past the office in the afternoons and evenings it was unmanned. We wanted to use the kitchenette, specifically the hob in our room which cost an additional supplement. We understood this, the mother and daughter who ran the place both gave us different amounts however. One said 5 euros, the other said 10. It also took them two days to get the thing on. The fridge in the room was not great. The vegetables we put in there did not last very long and the freezer section did not keep anything frozen. All in all we had a nice stay. The room was stunning and can’t fault the helpfulness of the staff. The shower and fridge are the main issues we faced.
