I’ve just returned from a week at this hotel over New Year’s Eve. I was disappointed upon arrival to find that the New Year’s Eve Gala dinner was an additional £200 per person. Given that we had booked an all-inclusive package, this felt quite disappointing and excessive, so we decided not to book it. When we checked in, we were assigned a garden view room as per our booking, but it seemed more like a road view with a small glimpse of the garden. The room appeared to have been set up for one person—there was only one mug, one spoon, and one set of slippers. Our name wasn’t displayed on the TV screen, making it feel as though the room was prepared for someone else and we were given it last-minute. After spending a night in the room, I could understand why that might have been the case. The noise from the road was extremely loud throughout the night, even with the door shut. We were also very hot in the room and found out that the air conditioning wasn’t working for the season. Since we couldn’t open the door because of the noise, we ended up having to sleep on top of the duvet in uncomfortable heat. Additionally, the toilet light wouldn’t turn off, so we had to keep the door closed to prevent it from shining into the main room. The next morning, we requested a room change due to the unbearable road noise and several issues with the room. Initially, the receptionist was reluctant to offer us a different room, stating that it was what we had booked and paid for. However, I insisted on a garden view room on the quieter side of the hotel, overlooking the back of another hotel. After some discussion, we were offered an alternative room, which we went to inspect and found to be more suitable. This room was much quieter and more bearable, though one of the single beds I had was uncomfortable and seemed to slope to one side. I ended up sleeping on the sofa bed for several nights instead. Despite these issues, we did enjoy our stay, likely because it was adults-only and the absence of children created a more peaceful, relaxing atmosphere. The outdoor pool was extremely cold, so we didn’t use it, and when we visited the spa area, we discovered that there was an additional charge to use the indoor pool, which was disappointing as this hadn’t been advertised. Some of the highlights of this hotel were its stunning grounds and beautiful decor, although certain communal areas, like the toilets, could have used a little more attention. We dined at the hotel each evening as part of our all-inclusive package, making use of the two à la carte restaurants. However, we were only allowed to book one reservation per restaurant, so we had to rely on the buffet on the other nights. While we were able to find something to eat each evening, the food was often lukewarm rather than hot. The service and quality at the à la carte restaurants were noticeably better. That said, the pastry chef deserves special praise because the desserts were absolutely delicious, and
