Advertised as a 5 star hotel however leaves a lot to be desired for a 5 star experience. Would recommend as a budget hotel for 1-2 nights but not for more than this (we stayed 7 nights).
1) Room was not clean when we entered, it had visibly not been hoovered as we found old chicken bones on the floor (see pic)
2) unfortunately we had a room with a broken coffee machine, called housekeeping 4/5 nights in a row, would be promised that someone would come and nobody came- ended up wasting a lot of precious time waiting for this service. On the other hand- when ordering room service, they were very fast (under 5 minutes). May be due to one service making money and the other not.
Eventually decided to lodge a complaint with the hotel- as we were paying for tea instead of having access to our own hot water- when mentioning this, the lady at reception said she would send us a kettle. Ended up waiting over an hour for said kettle (which never arrived), called reception again and told them not to send a kettle and that I would like to make a formal complaint after 6 nights of no access/ having to run around to get this fixed, somehow on hearing this they managed to send someone in under 5 minutes. We had access to the facility for 1 out of 7 nights.
3) location - there was no mention of development occurring around Anjum hotel and therefore the shortcut to the masjid was made longer by road blocks/ area blocks. Average time taken to arrive for prayer would be 10-15 minutes (we were two young people so had no issues however this may not be suitable for everyone)
4) Housekeeping would not hoover when cleaning rooms, didn’t change bed sheets for the entire stay for us and did not provide with slippers/ shower essentials that would be expected of a 5 star hotel. (They did give us slippers on the last day after the whole kettle issue😂). Also did not collect any towels so we had a big hill of towels at the end of our stay.
5) only 2 people on the counter at peak times, waiting in line for 20 minutes for check in (check out was a little easier as less busy)
6) no / very little fruit selection during the breakfast buffet, however the other meals provided were of ok quality
Overall- any type of pilgrimage is a precious occasion and having to deal with these types of issues during your stay can sometimes overshadow the experience you wish to have. We booked Anjum hotel hoping that they would make our time here a little easier for us (as we were travelling for so long and from so far away), unfortunately this was not the case. I would recommend this hotel for those who are not too worried about being stress free, however personally don’t think I would book here again.
