We stayed at The Gateway Hotel, Madurai from 24th to 26th September and had an amazing experience. Special thanks to Pandian, the manager, who ensured everything was perfect throughout our stay with his kindness and constant attention. Munnusway enriched our mornings with his brilliant knowledge of the plants during our morning walks. Karthik was efficient in replenishing our room essentials, always prompt and courteous. Special shoutout to Subhas in the kitchen for the delicious meals and Harish for his great service during the night shift. The staff’s dedication made our stay truly memorable!

Such a beautiful place to unwind and enjoy . The staff are polite and friendly, especially , Mr. Pandian took great care of us through the entire stay ensuring that we were comfortable .overall we had a very good time. You can see beautiful peacocks roaming around the place. Food was tasty but they could improve the portion size of items like pasta. Rooms are spacious and elegant. Very clean and comfortable. Highly recommended.

Wonderful hospitality by Pandian front office when stayed there for a day to visit temples with my daughter family. The services offered by him highly appreciable. We love to stay again and again there. Food is good and the room is clean and neat

Taj pasumalai, a beautiful heritage property atop a hill boasts of spectacular views and magnificent peacocks. This is our 3rd time staying in the property and safe to say that we definitely would always come back again. The staff were very courteous, the food especially the breakfast spread was abundant and amazing. Coffee was good. Although a little crowded at times, we could find our spot and relax and unwind. The majestic gopurams of the Meenakshi amman temple can be seen from the property which in itself was stunning. The front office team led by Mr.Pandian needs a kudos for handling customers with utmost care. There were a few areas taj need to focus. Our interconnected rooms were not ready at the time we checked in. The shower pressure in the bathroom was very slow. The toiletries kept here were not the luxurious forest essential product usually kept in other properties. Although the staff attended to these issues immediately, it was a little dampening in the beginning. Having said that, we could also empathize with them for having to do renovations in a heritage property comes with its own challenges. Overall we could see past the little issues and enjoy the property as a whole which made our stay pleasant and relaxing.

There are some hotels that you have to visit yourself to truly understand their charm. I can say that Taj Gateway Madurai is one of such rare properties in India. Built in 1890, this property even predates the legendary Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai (1903) and is currently being managed/operated by IHCL. I stayed here during first week of June, 2024 for 3 days/2 nights as a retreat from the hustle-bustle of Delhi NCR and also for doing Darshan in the world-famous Arulmigu Meenakshi Sundaraswarar Temple; that is a must visit if you ever plan to come to Madurai city. Since the hotel is located on a calm hillside, there are panoramic views of the city whether from the room or from the garden outside the multi-cuisine restaurant. However, what makes it really sweet are the beautiful peacocks that roam around freely in this nature-lovers' place plus the huge trees (especially nearby pool area) that probably have lived here for decades, if not a century. My flight from Delhi was early so the hotel very kindly gave me some Chai on my arrival, knowing well of my preference and the General Manager Mr. Vishal Srivastava was there to welcome me in the lobby with a smile! :) Mr. Noor Mohammad, F&B Manager was so very forthcoming to help me plan my Darshan to Meenakshi Temple among others and took care of my custom requests (whether in room amenities or arranging hotel cabs or dining) rather promptly. On his recommendation, I even tried the cheesy omelette in breakfast and I must say it is one of the best I have ever had. Mr. Thangapandian M., Front Office Manager coordinated my arrival and gave me some much needed guidance on the local sightseeing around Madurai. Mr. Ramesh Ayyanar, Restaurant Manager provided great service during my meals alongwith his colleagues Mr. Nalaraman, Chef Raj Kumar and Chef Suresh. Chef Kumar particularly made an excellent Burger with fresh fries in the night-time! Mr. Govind from Front Office assisted me in the night and showed me around the amazing vintage coffee-table book collection that the hotel has in the lobby and conference rooms. This is an essential check if you are a book-lover like myself! Ms. Aswini from Front Office settled my checkout quickly and kept the print of my final invoice ready when I was leaving for the Madurai Airport. Special mentions for Mr. Thirupathy and Mr. Malai Ram, hotel car drivers who not only took me to my local (and far away) destinations but also acted as language interpreters when I needed to communicate locally. The hotel cars are comfortable and well-maintained, though they are available at a relatively higher cost; I am told by the hotel that they internally working to provide better rates for hotel cars in the future. I would love to visit this property again sometime, for a longer duration because I feel there was much more to explore and just to experience the fresh breath of air and the serenity that can only come living in harmony with nature and this Taj is peace personifie

The stay was wonderful and the staff very warm and helpful. The property is breathtakingly beautiful. Set atop a hill, it is very green and quiet. The original building which is from 1890, is a beautiful colonial structure. The highlight is that there are more than 70 peafowl on the property. The peacocks were displaying their open plumage all over. They also eat out of your hand, but don’t like being touched Downside: in spite of being a 5 star, all the rooms do not have a bathtub. Only the top level suite has a bathtub. But otherwise an ideal place if you want to relax at the hotel.

Very nice and courteous staff; morning walk is fantastic; entire surrounding is very calm and quiet. Ideal for business and pleasure trip. Breakfast variety is moderate compared to ITC. But, taste is too good. Menu should focus little bit more south Indian
