Alma do Pico - Nature Residence

Our stay was amazing! The location of Alma do Pico is great. Just outside of Madalena and super central for all activities on Pico! The staff is amazing and they offer so many nice recommendations. At the reception they have a board with all activities and the best restaurants and opening times. The restaurant at the hotel, Atmosfera, is amazing and serves homemade pasta and beautiful wines. It’s run by a family and they also cater the breakfast at the cabins. You can adjust the breakfast to your own needs but it’s already amazing as it is. Big compliments to the entire restaurant team as they made us feel so welcome!

A lovely oasis on the outskirts of Madalena, Alma do Pico offers relaxing "duplex" studios in a wooded enclave with pool and on-premises restaurant. Each unit includes a small kitchen and an outdoor patio for enjoying the morning breakfast basket. Given the location, a rental car is handy for getting around the vicinity and exploring the island.

Alma do Pico was for me a wonderful place to stay. I travelled single en beforehand with arranging some things, they advised and helped me very much! During my stay they also were always helpful in giving the perfect information and advice. The staff was very accurate and kind. The accommodation cosy and with enough space. I had even a yoga class during my stay there which was special to be in the midst of the local community during my holidays, and have some extra physical and mental relaxation. What I also appreciate is that they listen careful to their customers to improve their service. And they have a good eye for nature and sustainability what for me is an important aspect. We had a wonderful stay at Almo do Pico this past week. The beautiful natural surroundings bring such a feeling of peace & calm. The cottage was a perfect size & we even used the mini kitchen to prepare some food from the supermarket 5 mins away. It was a bit dark & could use a bit of extra lighting( but we survived!) The walk to town was a lovely scenic 2 km & easy to get to as we didn’t have a car. The breakfasts were so delicious with personal table service & everything we needed. Simon was so friendly & kind. Breno was also so pleasant & informative giving us so much information about the area. We highly recommend this lovely resort.

We had originally booked this hotel in 2019 for travel in May 2020. Obviously, our trip was cancelled due to COVID. We only decided to travel again in August 2022 and the hotel held our deposit the whole time. The grounds of the hotel are beautiful. The rooms themselves are fairly basic but everything is clean and well set up. The breakfast was very good. You get fruit, bread, cheese and ham but they will also bring eggs or cereal and yoghurt on request as well as excellent coffee. If you are staying while the restaurant is open, book it as soon as possible. Dinner is great. One of the few places in the Azores with good vegetarian options. The best part though about Alma do Pico is the people. On check in, we got a full tour of the facility and a map of the island with their recommendations of what to see and do, very helpful. Everybody there is friendly and helpful.

We stayed here for 3 nights. There is no denying that the facility is very clean but there were a few things that we weren’t satisfied with. There are two wifi’s available. The one in the common areas requires a password and occasionally it wouldn’t work for us. The wifi in the cabins does not require a password and would only work less than 50% of the time. This was very frustrating considering there are no TV’s anywhere in facility either. We could only read so much! There is no A/C in the rooms either, only a ceiling fan, which did suffice sometimes but most times we had to keep the door open in order to get any sort of breeze. This didn’t help a lot though because the weather was quite warm Aug 24-27th. We found the room to be very dark even during the day and often had to use the lights from the kitchenette and bathroom to see. There is a light in the ceiling fan but it wasn’t enough. The pool was small and not very inviting. We didn’t see any others using it either. The village is a 2km walk, and mostly uphill coming back. We decided against having dinner here at their restaurant Atmosphera because although it gets good reviews, the entire menu was vegetarian with the exception of a ham shank. We were wanting fish and seafood selections. We spoke with a couple that had eaten there the night before and said their meal was only so-so, not very flavourful and expensive at $35 euro/person. Breakfast was very nice but we think it should begin at 7am rather than 8-9:30 for early risers like ourselves, although they will pack you a breakfast if you have an early start. Overall the place was quite nice and tranquil but we wouldn’t stay here again. The staff was very friendly and the service at breakfast was wonderful.
