Frederick Dana Marsh, father of the well known Social Realist painter Reginald Marsh, married Mabel Van Alstyne in 1930, starting a notable artistic partnership as the Van Alstyne Marsh Collection that was later acquired by the Smithsonian Institution. No other house is visible from inside the Pond House with its own designated back yard facing the pond and the stream. The grounds and pond surrounding the Pond House are reserved for the Pond House. The Pond House feels very secluded, since two sides of the property are bordering preserves. The pond is not a swimming pond, but the stream comes with multiple swim holes and a waterfall. The property is located within a 10 minute walking distance to the center of the historic town of Woodstock, NY. The 2500sft house is the former Museum House that used to hold Mabel Marsh’s art collection that was later acquired by the Smithsonian Institute. It has been architect gut-renovated into a dramatic living experience surrounded by nature and water. The Pond and Carriage House are at the opposite side of the estate, no adjacent outdoor areas are shared, except the driveway, the overlook lounge chair, and 'sand land' can also be visited by guests from the Pond House, both are not directly visible from the house or patio. The Pond House is visible in the distance from the north terrace only.
