This was our 6th visit to Los Cristianos in the last 2 years, but our first experience of self catering having previously stayed at the Gran Arona or similar. We booked a package with Jet2. The apartments are about a 10/15 minute walk from the front. Initially we were in a studio overlooking the road and The Vault bar (previous reviews have mentioned the late noise from this bar but it wasn’t apparent over the 2 nights we were there). We were able to move after 2 nights to a room on the opposite side of the building that had a small terrace, this was a big improvement although the view was the back of an adjacent building. My impression was that the bedroom/kitchenette had been upgraded at some point , but the bathroom was rather tired and grubby and overdue for some attention. Not unusual in my experience but the storage space for clothes etc is woefully inadequate. Not many plugs, we have an adaptor that has 3 USB ports so we managed. Cooking facilities are just about adequate- we were fine for breakfast but struggled a bit with evening meals, this was important to us as the cost of eating out is quite high. (Several of the hotels we have used offer an upgrade from b&b to half board for very little cost and this is worth considering as a factor if you’re undecided on what type of accommodation you want). I reckon most of what we saved going self catering was spent on eating out. We did eat in several times. The bed was very uncomfortable but they provided a mattress topper that solved this. The roof area is attractive with great views, the pool rather small and there are limited sun loungers but we always found some on the few occasions we went up there. The roof bar is very pleasant with lovely views. The gym was basic but adequate. The staff were great, very friendly and helpful and any issues we had were resolved promptly. The Olivina “supermarket” in the same building is way expensive, walk 5 mins up the hill to the Dial Prix. The Vault bar over the road is good, busy, plenty of atmosphere, nice food and reasonable prices. There are lots of places to eat nearby, we found the nearby Italian (? Locanda) really good, maybe the best pizza I’ve had. “Oops” on the promenade gets my vote for best coffee but not much of a view. The catamaran whale watching cruise we did was very poor. First they charged us an extra €25 for sun loungers, then they served the free drinks in medicine cups and last but worst the lunch was absolutely disgusting (Chicken “meatballs”, seriously?). We did see pilot whales though, can’t argue with that! The music show “History” in Playa de Las Americas was fabulous, €49 I think, great value, only once a week on Saturday. There’s no allocated seating, people start queuing crazy early to make sure of good seats. It was almost full the night we went and got a standing ovation.
