The Georgian Town House Hotel

I would describe this guesthouse as basic, worth the money, but generally a bit tired and needing some attention. We had 2 single rooms, mine being in the roof space. It served a purpose but there were some minor issues and 1 major issue. The room had a broken table lamp, all the fittings in the bathroom were loose, wallpaper hanging off the walls, my dads room door handle came off In your hands. The skylight blind in my room wouldn't stay shut, so I received an early awakening by the sun. Don't book the top floors if you have mobility issues, as its a bit of a climb. It does explain that in the website though. There are signs for a cafe and suggestions of a breakfast being served but there are none. The biggest and pretty serious concern in my opinion was that the key fobs to the rooms opened EVERY room door. I know, because I was able to enter my dads and, with the permission of other guests, I was able to open their doors too. Not great if your a lone female!! That said, it was the cheapest place to stay and the bed was comfortable. There are no visible staff by the way so if you need assistance, you need to phone them.

Our room was beautiful. Large and very clean. Beds were very comfortable and good pillows. Tea and coffee making facilities in the room as well as bottled water and shampoo and shower gel. Shower door was a bit stiff but not an issue. No lift available so rooms on the top floor may not be suitable for all. Overall a wonderful stay. A bit off away from the centre of things but no more than 5 mins in a taxi.

We have just spent 2 nights in this lovely hotel, we had a twin room front facing and despite being on a busy road the traffic noise was not an issue , the beds were amongst the most comfortable I have ever slept in and lovely soft pillows too with spare quilts in the cupboard if needed , we had tea making facilities and a small fridge in the cupboard and a large flat screened TV , lovely on suite bathroom with shower with piping hot water and great water pressure , we really couldn’t have asked for more, we were literally a stone’s throw from the Anglican n cathedral and gardens and had several restaurants and bars in close proximity, I would recommend this place to anyone it was clean, comfortable and ideally placed for local amenities, on road parking is available but we didn’t need it , and a massive Thankyou to our lovely landlady Anne, absolutely nothing was too much trouble she really is salt of the earth. We will certainly stay here again

We arrived to find it extremely difficult to find room 1. After 5 minutes of walking up and downstairs, a cleaner came from 1 of the rooms and directed us through a door with nothing on it. The room was enormous and very cold with a heater that was only good enough to heat a small closet. The bathroom heater was not working, and the shower door was hanging off with a makeshift shower curtain attached. After ringing Ann, the landlady, she eventually moved us into another room, which also had broken shower doors with a curtain. An old-fashioned blow heater in the bathroom. There were signs to say cafe was in the basement, which was through a room that held the dirty laundry. There are no signs for breakfast anywhere. It felt cold and unfriendly. On a positive note, the bed was extremely comfortable, and the cleaner made everything as clean as she could.

Perfectly adequate, no staff on site, but we managed ok. Superb location. If accommodation is all you’re after this is ideal. We didn’t eat on site but I’m aware there was a cafe for breakfast on site. Lovely views of the Anglican cathedral across the Georgian rooftops.

Nice location away from the noise of the city centre. Some of the sockets in the room didn’t work, and the kettle in the room needed to be cleaned n the floor for the cable to reach but that was only a minor issue. Lovely place, would definitely stay again
