Two public houses serving good food are within 1.5 miles, The Manor Inn at Rilla Mill and The Caradon at Upton Cross where there is also a Post Office and General Store. The market town of Liskeard is 15 minutes by car. Siblyback Lake, 6 miles, offers angling and a water sports, and salmon and trout fishing is also available on local rivers. There are riding stables, clay pigeon shooting grounds (professional tuition available) nearby and golf courses in the area. Onsite, there is an astronomical observatory.
