Avra Beach Hotel

Just back from a week here in early July. Rooms are simple but clean & sufficient with comfortable beds. Fantastic to have a full sized under-counter fridge and kettle provided (no T&C though). Aircon worked well, was included in price and was absolutely essential for us. It got up to 38 degrees in the shade and the heat radiates from the buildings well into the evening & it felt hard to escape the heat at times (other than your room of course). Balconies were great in the morning, but just too hot for us from mid morning to around 8pm. Great for drying clothes though! Breakfast was fine - eggs, bacon, sausage, toast, bread, melon, yoghurt, Greek pastries and a hot drinks machine. Plenty of supermarkets very close by for water, milk, toiletries etc. We ate in the Avra tavern a few times - not the best meals of the holiday, but still good food. The staff are helpful, friendly and ready to have a chat. The location of the hotel is just wonderful - so close to the beach with plenty of trees providing essential shade. Enough sun beds (€5 each per day) which some reserved with towels the night before but you can also sit at some tables under the trees without the need to buy food from the taverna. The outside areas were well tended and the small beach was cleaned and checked first thing daily. The water gets cloudy through swimmers disturbing the sand though, so get in early for great snorkelling (7am). The beach is mainly of very small stones which shift underfoot at the waters edge making it potentially tricky getting in and out (as per my 84yr old Dad). We’d stay here again for sure if revisiting Nidri as the hotel and taverna provide everything needed with good, clean facilities both on site and close by. Thank-you for making it a great stay.

Friendly and helpful staff! Nisei is so peaceful, the hotel is yards from the sea. The outlook is tranquil, serene and picturesque. Our room was comfortable and we had a spacious balcony as we were on a corner that had all the late afternoon sun. Breakfast was a bit the same each morning but plenty of it. Clean throughout and linen changed daily, towels changed unless you left them hanging up on the towel rail. I would definitely come to Avra beach hotel again, and I recommend May, as nice and quiet before the season gets busy.

This lovely but basic hotel is family run with a taverna serving delicious food right by the beach. The town with plentiful restaurants and a port are close by, just an easy stroll away. A quiet location with friendly staff. We had a great holiday.

If I could break down the star rating even further, I'd give it a 3.5. Overall a pleasant hotel with great staff, all very friendly. Cleaners were amazingly efficient, bar staff really friendly, as was everyone to be honest. Food quality was great, though for those staying longer than 7 days, be prepared to be a little bored with the choice and wanting some more variety. Also a word of caution - the main hotel rooms that we stayed in for the first night (due to our family room not available) was 2* standard at best. I wouldn't be happy if I stayed in it any longer. However the family room (guessing built much later in a separate block) was worthy of the 4* rating and was a pleasure to stay in. I was surprised it didn't have a gym, since I would expect every 4* hotel to have one. However it never said it had one and wouldn't mark it down as a result. Location wise, this is great to get around and there's a car rental place on site which I used and was entirely happy with. Allowed us to explore the island a little more. The hotel has a beach front but beware it's a pebble beach which can be a little painful in entering the sea! Where this hotel loses the biggest marks (and it really shouldn't and is easily rectifiable) is the sunbeds - or should I say the distinct lack of them. The quality what they have isn't great, and they don't have enough. When the hotels full, you're struggling for space. If we weren't down by 9am, we couldn't get a sunbed until around 4 in the afternoon. Its that bad and why I've marked them down. Whilst space is at a premium they did have some space on the beach and a little away from the pool, but no more sunbeds for us to use. Would I go back? No, since I'm sure for the money I could find other places that I wouldn't have to sit on a chair by the bar for most of the day waiting for a free sunbed.

First ate here 30 years ago (food was rustic, freshly made & wonderful then, so much so we ate every night for two weeks.) Then we returned 4 years ago ( I believe still owned by the same family?) it was excellent again & finally we dined there last night which wasn’t great I’m sorry & sad to say 😞 The location is spectacular, right on the beach with an amazing view, car parking is right at the restaurant door too, it’s very clean & the staff are pleasant but unfortunately & I’ve never left a negative review for any business before, the food we ate was disappointing. We’d calamari, spaghetti dishes, roast chicken & steak, none were cooked fresh, a little similar to motorway services quality. Hopefully it was just a bad night we chose, to be fair the fresh salad dishes that others were eating looked good. The restaurant wasn’t full, quite a few empty tables (8pm us English eat early?) however you’d think at this time of year & with this location you’d struggle to get in? Sorry again for this average review, genuinely my intentions are to help, it’s important to know about customer’s experiences in my book. Good luck! No idea about price, we don’t look at costs, just want good food whether it’s cheap or expensive 😊

After our whole holiday being cancelled by Tui, we was absolutely devastated. I decided to email the hotel direct to see if we could book the room through them and get separate flights out. Helen was absolutely amazing and understanding and sorted this out for us. We was in a family room with the most amazing views of the pool and sea. The staff are all very friendly and work so hard to make the guest happy. The rooms are cleaned everyday and to a high standard. I loved the pool guy who removed towels from the saved beds at 8.15 am on the dot. I was always on mine reading a book, so was entertaining to watch 🙈. Entertainment some nights was really good and some not so good, but the entertainment team throughout the day where good fun, a few where still training and a little shy but over we week we saw Philip get more confidence, which was good to see. The views and watching the sun go down each night was amazing, the beach is big pepples but we took pool shoes, so was fine, the sea is lovely and warm and clear. We got the private bus to the centre of Rhodes, another beautiful place and the old town was stunning. We also went on a fishing trip where we had a bbq the boat and swam in the deep sea. Although we loved the place and would def come back again, I’ve given 4 stars instead of 5 because of a couple of little things. First the food, there was a big selection but unfortunately for us fussy eaters there wasn’t much choice. My husband was fine who will eat anything and it was a food lesson each day wondering what was on his plate haha And the aircon in our room was useless, my daughter was cold every night as it just blew on her in her side of the room but myself and husband on our side couldn’t feel any of it, so didn’t sleep much as it was way too hot in the room. I think the rooms need updated aircon. The hair dryer is also useless and have to keep a finger pressed down for it to work. The sun loungers needs updating also, most of them where broken and we saw Alot of people falling backwards and trapping their fingers in them.
