We returned for our anniversary after having a fantastic day here in July for our Wedding. The staff are very friendly and look after you. The food is awesome. The location is brilliant. Thanks to the restaurant staff. A lovely atmosphere. We'll be back once again!!!

I stayed here for one night midweek as a late autumn break to explore the Peak District for the first time. I travel a great deal and stay in hotels for at least four months a year and I expect high standards. The hotel did not deliver this. Whilst The Three Horseshoes Hotel was immaculately clean, the reception staff, who are the first and last points of contact, completely failed to be helpful or friendly. I dealt with several people and I would go so far as to say that they were downright unhelpful, cold and aloof. I couldn't help but sense that guests were made to feel they were an inconvenience. Check in was more of an interrogation than a pleasant experience and the staff member failed to point out where the restaurant was (I had booked on a DBB basis). The hotel, however, is attractive from the outside and every area that I visited was immaculately clean. Stays are not cheap and I would suggest that they are rather overpriced for the standards delivered. What upset me the most was that I contacted the hotel in advance (they sent me a pre-arrival email to complete my check in details) and I requested a late check out until 12:00, which was one hour extra. I did not receive any reply. I mentioned this at check in and the young lady processing my arrival simply looked at me down her nose and replied, "We don't permit late checkouts". I asked if she was sure and she simply turned away. I had booked a "Fourposter Hot Tub Room" and whilst this was clean and quite attractive, it was much too small to accommodate such a large (and impressive) bed. The furnishings, however, were of a generally high standard. There were two chairs near the foot of the bed and a small writing desk to one side. High quality bathrobes and matching towels for use in the outdoor hot tub were neatly placed on the bed. The bedroom was too hot, even in November, and whilst a fan was placed in the wardrobe, there was no air conditioning. I resorted to opening the patio doors but this did little to help. There was no safe or fridge in the room, though a large jug of water was provided. There was ample tea and coffee, and hot chocolate was also available, along with some biscuits. The bathroom was large with a jacuzzi bath and a separate shower. Again, this was immaculately clean. There was wall mounted soap and shampoo in the shower but no way of knowing which was which. The soap near the sink was also wall mounted. There was no soap or shampoo for use with the bath. I was also disappointed that there were no other toiletries such as lotion available. I selected this hotel due to the fact that the room was meant to have its own garden with a wooden hot tub. This was reached through patio doors and I was quite surprised to find that the "garden" was little more than a flagged terrace with a shrub in each corner.
