Premier Inn Leeds South (Birstall)

AWOL receptionist. Arrived rang the bell at reception desk. Waited. Nothing happened. I sat down my husband rang the bell for a second time & we both waited. Nothing happened. Another couple came in to check in and we all waited. Then a guy appeared in Premier Inn uniform told us to ring the bell said we had. We waited. Another guy comes along mumbled ‘ I’m not reception’ just ring the bell. I said we have and I’m not waiting any longer. He scuttled off but think he got the vibe we were unhappy. Receptionist arrived with a brief ‘sorry’ but didn’t appear to be. After checking in the card she issued us with didn’t work as not been activated so had to return to the check in desk. Very very poor first impression. The rooms were super hot, no air con and unable to open windows as the motorway/road noise was terrible. Didn’t get much sleep. The fan in the bathroom was like an airplane about to take off! The restaurant had not a single staff member when I went in or a customer. Shouted hello 3 times and no one came. We went to TGI ‘s across the way at the retail park which was very good with lovely attentive staff. I usually like Premier Inns but not this one.

The overall appearance of the hotel was nice. The accessible room itself was clean and spacious. However, where it was situated was not great. Both of their accessible rooms were next to the stairs, close to the door to reception and the corridor was directly above. The noise from people traffic wasn't great. Constant thuds from above which made me jump from my sleep in the middle of the night. Hoping that it didn't wake my son because that would mean my day would have to begin.

Bathroom smelt of cigarette smoke, heating was making cracking noises. The resturant food was terrible, had mixed grill the steak was stone cold, sausages was raw, the gaming looked off. Told the staff and they didnt seem to care and didn't offer refund.

We were left sitting 40 minutes after ordering a meal while food was being brought out to other customers, including those who ordered immediately before us, to be told around 7.50pm that the chef was not going to cook any more that night as it was too cold in the kitchen. Apparently they had been having problems earlier but the manager had said to continue to take orders without telling us of the problem or the liklihood thst we might not get a meal.

Shoutout to Vic and Jenny! Great service with a great smile. I just came here to write the above line, but for some reason I am expected to write a minimum of 200 characters soooo one sheep, two sheep, three sheep, nope that's a crocodile. And off to bed I go.

I regualry stop at The Brickworks for work, and always find the staff, Karen & Vic, in the mornings, Cath, Jenny and Mollie, at evening time, really friendly and helpful. The staff have time for you as resident, always happy, even when the premise is busy, they still have time for you. The food is always well prepared and served hot. Breakfast through the week is freshly cooked to order. The hotel is very well located for both Bradford & Leeds, a very short drive from the Birstall shoping centre, with Ikea, and Showcase cinema on your door step. Rooms are always very clean and freshly made, often earlier than the advertised check in time, although that can carry an additional cost.
