Based on Hotel/Restaurant/Museum/Farm & Gift Shop So we went away for a night as a mini get away, my mother & I. The farm shop shelves were empty. Literally no fresh produce, bread, eggs, there were a couple packs of bacon & sausages and some cold blakes pasties. Disappointed that you couldnt buy the ‘Jamaica Inn’ bitter that is on draught in the bay by the bottle as a gift to take away. I wasnt prepared to pay £17 for a bottle of wine with a branded label. The gift shop was selling general tat you could buy in any tourist attraction up and down the country. With the expectation of £15 for a tshirt, £6.50 for a bar towel or £1.99 for a coaster. The laser cut glasses I thought were good value though. Tankard, short or wine glasses available at very good prices. Its a real shame you do not get served your drinks in these branded glasses in the restaurant as a added welcome touch. Anyway… museum, even as a paying hotel guest i was surprised to learn you had to pay to go in the museum. It is made up of 3 areas. Namely focusing on the author Daphne more so than the inn Itself. This is the last third of the museum. Interesting read/look around. And not much to pay to go in anyway. We enjoyed a drink (a pot of tea & pint of Birra Moretti) in the sun in the old courtyard. A little over £8 for both. They had an offer for £5.50 for a wedge of cake and a hot drink. This seemed great value even though we didnt have it. The cake someone else had looked lovely. My mum booked our rooms, i wasn’t aware there was an ‘old’ and ‘new’ wing so to speak. We were in the new part which was a bit of a shame as we wanted the full Jamaica Inn experience. Will have to enquire how we can stay in the original part of the inn if we stay again. Room was pleasant enough. Good facilities. I had a single room which was surprised by having a small double expecting a single bed. TV VERY high up on the wall but a good size. The room itself was very clean, a clean tv remote which i always appreciate. If i picked faults the water glass was a little grubby but overall very happy. The pillows are sooo good! The blackout curtains were brilliant. The walls were paper thin however, my mum heard someone vomiting & coughing in the next room from 5:30am in the next room which work her up and people up and down corridors, toilets flushing, taps running in other rooms left nothing to the imagination. Paper thin walls - expect to hear everything. The pillows & mattress i wanted to keep though! Other gripe would be housing keeping talking loudly and lining the hallway cleaning rooms around 7:30am while others are sleeping. Isn’t very welcome. Also a struggle with luggage leaving due to their shopping baskets of glasses and boxes of toiletries, dirty bedding blocking the corridor. Namely outside an accessible room you would not get a wheel chair out. We had dinner in the restaurant we booked a table in advance. The menu didn’t excite me. If you love your red meat you are spoilt for choic
