Lairg Highland Hotel

I've just returned from cycling all over England and Scotland and I thought I'd share my experience while staying at this hotel. My diary says I stayed at 36 indoor venues, and I can say with confidence that this hotel was my most unpleasant. My reception upon arrival was the coldest I had experienced. My efforts of small talk were met with silence, but I let it slip. I checked in, with more silence. The room was OK, as was the dinner that evening, but while having breakfast the following morning I passed on my thoughts to the elderly waitress about the ambiguously worded breakfast checklist, which I was asked to complete the previous evening. Having completed many such checklists at other hotels in the UK, I could see how it could be improved to allay future confused guests. She politely explained to me the list's intended meaning, and I reiterated that I found it confusing. She then returned to the kitchen, and about 15 seconds later an elderly woman appeared from the same kitchen, stormed over to my table, shook my completed checklist in my face and sternly defended its ambiguous wording. I then realised I must have found the author of the checklist. Her argument not only lacked logic, but it was delivered in such an unprofessional manner that I was truly shocked. I said I was merely passing on some customer feedback to make it easier for future guests, and that there was no need to be so confrontational. She repeated her baseless argument (including yogurt is a cereal) and as she stormed off she blurted out "I'm not used to dealing with stupid people !" Sadly my memories of my stay are unpleasant ones, and I must support the comments of other writers on this website by suggesting you look further afield if you seek an enjoyable stay. For the rest of Scotland and England, I truly enjoyed my visit.

The hotel is a little scruffy from the outside but the actual bedrooms are very nice and modern. Parking right in front of hotel. We ate in the lounge bar and the food was excellent. Breakfast was a little greasy but was freshly cooked and hot. Would definitely recommend.

After a long cycle ride the comfort of this hotel was very much appreciated. The food was excellent as too was the room. Lairg itself was a pleasant place for an evenings stroll. All in all whatever finds you in Lairg this hotel is well worth a stay.

We booked the Lairg Highland Hotel while travelling up through Scotland and it turned out to be the perfect stop. The staff in the hotel were very friendly and helpful and we had a nice chat too. The room was clean and comfortable and had tea and coffee making facilities too. The hotel and the whole area was very quiet. The cooked breakfast was great, tasty and a delicious breakfast. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay there again.

A nice enough hotel. The room with on suite was just OK. The breakfast was not very nice, just 1 egg, 1 piece of bacon, 1 sausage all of which were coated in frying fat, and the driest toast I've ever had. No juice, beans etc. We also had dinner and that was basic, but we new this would be the case. Given that we spent £120 for a 1 night stay in a bnb in Ullapool, the same as we spent for this hotel, we feel that this place is way way over priced and we wished we had stayed somewhere else. Also it didn't help that either a guest of employee was smoking ***** wright under our window.

I want to preface this by saying we never expected how good this was! We went off season and were glad to find a place to eat. We sat in the bar for a couple hours, waiting for the restaurant to open. The Barman, whose name we can’t believe we never asked, was perfect. Light chatter and best service! They had a nice selection of whisky and we drank several! When it was time for dinner, I got the venison and my husband got the fish. WOW! We've been so blown away by the change in the way food is prepared..here and now! The vegetables were incredible and done perfectly. The venison tasted almost like a perfect, prime rib with just a hint of the woods! We asked to thank the chef and he was embarrassed, I think, but we don’t do that at all..this was just one of those times we had to. The sad part is, the machine to pay wouldn’t let us tip, so we needed up getting their address and sending it to the hotel. We hope they received it! We didn’t stay in the hotel, we booked the Newsagents flat on Travelocity and it was lovely too. One block away from the hotel. Although the place is aged, it really was incredible and we’ve eaten all over the world! I think Scotland is finally realizing just how incredible they are! I’m married to a Brit, but my hearts here! Thanks again!
