Sign of the Angel

Have to say the building and service was extremely good. We all ordered starters which these days are very expensive but this was a special occasion, receive 5 small pieces of squid which was very chewy and a couple of leaves which were not even dressed, would expect a lot more for nearly a tenner. Roast was just average. I certainly do not like complaining but this was completely overpriced for a very average lunch.

Beautiful old building, very comfortable bed and lovely room. Bathroom needs some tlc and the shower head was mouldy! Would have liked some local literature for places to visit as there was nothing. Apart from that we had a lovely sleep in a very comfortable bed.

We decided to have lunch here yesterday as we were impressed by the exterior of the property and the quaint garden. We both ordered the walnut and beetroot salad. It was smaller than we had expected for the price we were paying, but it tasted ok. However, we both felt that something was missing, and we realised that we were both missing the walnuts. We explained the situation and asked the lady who was serving us if we could have two pots. She returned a short time later with one very small pot and told us that the chef remembered adding them to our dishes. We told her categorically that neither of us received anything, and we asked for another pot. However, it was not forthcoming and we were simply ignored from that point. We decided to just pay-up and leave. We really don’t care about a few nuts, but to have the chef fail to fulfill our order, and then to insinuate that we were somehow lying about it, was an awful experience. Consequently we will never go there again. It is a shame as it is a great space, but the service fell well short of what is acceptable.
