Ast Surf Hotel

We had a great week at the AST Surf Hotel. Great waves right in front of the hotel, unbelievably good food, friendly staff and also Anibal, our wonderful surf guide who put us into the best waves. My son and I stayed for a week in April, surfed every day and generally had a brilliant time in El Salvador. We'll be back.

Had a great time with Anibal. One of my favorite trips and I look forward to coming back. It was a pleasant surprised that everyone in the country was so nice. The food at the hotel was great as well.

Now is the time to travel to El Salvador! And you cannot ask for better ambassadors then Jorge and the entire staff at AST. They go above and beyond to make you feel welcome and comfortable. The accommodations exceeded expectations in cleanliness and aesthetic. We could not stop talking about how comfortable we found the beds, linen, and pillows. We chose AST with the narrow focus of having a "learn-to-surf vacation". And ended up having so much more, mainly this authentic cultural experience. In retrospect we were grateful to have chosen La Libertad over more touristy towns close by. The locals were extremely friendly, an excellent opportunity to practice the Spanish language. We loved walking the locals' market near the hotel and finding a cold cerveza in one of the many open air establishments dotting the coastline. Or walking the beach down to the pier and inspecting the fresh catch of the day. The food was too good and too plentiful at AST to try much of the local fare but many restaurants were within walking distance of the hotel. Marcos, our surf guide, was a true gem. His knowledge and experience built confidence. I still hear his wise words, "balance and tranquilo!" His patience was remarkable. And as much as we enjoyed surfing with him, we equally enjoyed his camaraderie around the breakfast table or while he showed us the sites on afternoon excursions. He was amenable to our whims and altering plans whether it was due to weather or exhaustion : ) AST catered to an array of surf abilities as well as those that preferred other activities from volcano hikes to natural springs and waterfalls or day excursions to San Salvador. And at the end of the day you could gather and hear of everyone's adventures or find quiet in the solitude of your air conditioned room. A win win for any traveler type.
