Hotel Fars Hatt

…..do not stay here. Trust the reviews, they are all true. Only far out on the countryside in Brazil seen something similar. A shame, because the nearest street with the historic wooden houses, is something you could not miss out on. Don’t stay here. Sleep in the car.

We spent 3 nights in this hotel, Friday-Monday, and our room was not once visited by housekeeping. The bathroom was worn, tiny, a bit dirty and lacked towels and soap. We also found a few bugs crawling around. When we asked about the towels, we had to wait for more than an hour before we got 3 for 4 people whereas one was full of holes and the others stained. The divider between the toilet and shower was detached from its tracks, making it a hazard for the kids. Several lamps were out of order, but otherwise the room was ok. As for the rest of the hotel, you could clearly see the need for maintenance all over. Breakfast was plain/basic, lacked selection, but at least ok quality for what you could choose from. I could have given 2 stars max if at least the staff was helpful and accommodating, however that was not the case. They promised housekeeping would stop by after we told them Saturday it was lacking, and Sunday when we got back late evening still nothing. Obviously never coming back unless things change drastically, and writing this review to warn others.

The hotel Fars Hatt was a tremendous letdown. We found out why; COVID-19 ruined the business, new owners have not followed up. The lovely spot by the river is in shambles. Very sad! The old traditions linger on in the halls and rooms, more ghostly nowadays. Airy rooms with comfortable beds have not changed much, but up keeping is sorely needed – we did not feel like taking av shower in the morning. And the breakfast was lacking – no wonder with next to no guests. We feel sorry for Kungälv where a pearl is about to get lost.

Avoid this hotel if you value your health. The place is filthy, run down and crawling with rats. management are rarely present and when they are they couldn’t care less. The pool, bar and all amenities are closed with quite some time. The rooms are never serviced, we were on a group booking and stayed for a week. Rooms were never done. Rooms are also tiny, leave your luggage outside situation. The rats are of course the biggest issue but when we informed reception they said they already knew about their problem. Cannot understand how this place is allowed to stay open.

We were in Gothenburg for the night to see Coldplay and all the hotels in and around the city wanted crazy money to stay there. The only reason we stayed at Hotel Fars Hatt was because it was the least bad option in terms of price. But the cost was still way beyond what it should have been for 2 small beds in a tired, dated room which resembled a 1970s hospital. The rest of the hotel was as dated as the room, with decor of different decades in different areas. Wi-Fi was okay in the main areas but struggled in our room. The receptionist was very nice but it took an age to check in, and it was a little bit worrying when she said she needed to check which rooms had been cleaned! Positives: - Breakfast was reasonable enough and in all honesty better than we expected. - Although out of Gothenburg, it’s actually very accessible - the bus runs very regularly and it’s only about 25 mins away. - Fars Hatt looked pretty nice but the weather was awful so we didn’t explore. Overall, over-priced and desperately in need of investment.

We wanted a hotel with pool for the kids, and electrical charging. Within the two first minutes after arrival, they said the pool pump was broken and the electrical charing aswell. We had a look at the pool and it it was bricks falling out, and in a horrible condition. So the pump might be broken, but thats just the tip of the iceberg. The breakfast was bad, the service looked like they didnt want to be there and the everything around you were falling apart. Stay away from here. Its all a smokescreen and they are just living on good reviews from previous owners.

First, we were met with an overall gloomy impression. A dark reception, stained and dirty window surfaces, sticky floors where there was no carpet, the list goes on. The flowers that were placed around were dry or in different stages of death. Secondly, the room was in a poor conditions. The floors weren't cleaned properly, the mattress was lumpy and it was very warm in the room, with no a/c. The window was out towards the parking lot, so the stay was spiced with the sound of cars all night. Hehe. But, maybe most disappointing, the advertised outdoor pool had about a feet of brown swamp water, and some old lawn chairs stood upside down. The entire pool looked like a postmodern sculptural space. The sauna was nice! The breakfast was okay. Coffee was out, and there was only one poor woman working there, clearly stressed and annoyed when people requested items that were out. This place needs a transformation, because the photos illustrating the hotel are NOT accurate anymore.

The photos should show already enough but here some “highlights”! The carpet is that dirty you don’t want to take your shoes off. Returned after work at 5:00pm my room key didn’t work. Nobody at the reception until 5:55pm! I was offered a different room and got a key - when I checked the room somebody was staying there already. Receptionist returned my laundry not ironed and with stains on a business shirt. His comment - I put it in the washing machine for you. Finally could open my room and - bed not made and no new towels. If you want the worst experience in your life - you book here!!

I have stayed in this hotel off and on since the 1970s and always liked it, also its location in a charming old part of Kungälv. The rooms are a bit old-fashinoned by now but cosy and generally OK. (Older people might have problems climbing into the bathtub for a shower.) WiFi works perfectly. The hotel is obviously understaffed, when we arrived we could not find anybody in the reception and the restaurant was closed. After we waited for a while, a very friendly and helpful lady finally showed up and directed us also to a nice Indian restaurant nearby. The disappointing bit was the breakfast, not up to the standard we were used to. Orange juice was watery; the apple juice was at least drinkable. Boiled eggs were neither too soft nor too hard but cold, and no egg cups and no proper spoons provided. There was a waffle machine but the waffles were dry and not very tasty and with them came only Nutella and honey (no maple syrup). The bread and cheese selection were good, though. A return to the old standard would be an improvement. As to your question about Norwegian spoken or not: the hotel is in Sweden and we spoke Swedish. I guess English and maybe German would have been OK, too
