Best templestay! Staff is monks, at the morning - morning pray and at 12 o’clock fire ceremony. Delicious and private dinner and breakfast! Wooden and old (good old) building!

Our stay at Shojoshinin was fantastic. We slept in a traditional japanese room and had a delicious dinner and breakfast in another incredibly beautiful room.
We attended the morning prayers, the temple tour, and the fire ceremony.
It was quite cold but there was heating in the room so no problem :)

It was the unique experience. So, just a few useful notes. They has temple tour at 12:30, and you can continue with “goma” fire ritual at 13:00, free for hotel guests. Be prepared that it could be really cold. Cold at night, cold at morning pray, cold at breakfast, where only slightly warm tea and rice could save you from the feeling of being cold.

This is my first experience staying at a Japanese temple. The place is very clean and has the feel of nostalgia of a ancient temple located next to the okunoin cemetery. The room is spacious equipped with heater, tv and necessary amenity. The break is served at around 7:30am after the mediation which the guests are invited to join and the dinner is around 5:30pm. All vegetarian menus which are very delicious. You will be given a wooden stick to write your wish and name and use it during the fire ceremony at 1pm take place next to the temple. The place are ran by professional monks who speak good English. I highly recommend this place. The only downfall is there are only two restroom without bidet in the facility.

Cool stay at a monastery in Koyasan! As far as I understand, Shojoshin-in is one of the larger temple lodgings in Koyasan. Our room had an amazing view (koi pond and forest) from the tea room. All our basic needs are met including amenities. They served authentic Japanese vegan meals; I particularly enjoyed the dinner as it had a large variety of small dishes. Keep in mind this is Japanese style lodging, where you have a shared bath with other guests.

It was my first time to visit Goyamountain. I enjoyed very much my stay and the vegetarian meals were exceptional.

We would have preferred a thicker tatami. Otherwise the place is really an adventure to remember. Dont miss the 4pm temple tour and 6:30am morning service.
