Komodo Resort

I booked the resort and their liveaboard in Komodo. I wanted to dive a lot with the liveaboard and then take some peace and quiet. Great experience both on the boat and at the resort. The dive guides were great, everything was always done on time and I didn’t even have to do anything to move from the boat to the island… I was treated like a king. The resort is more rustic compared to their liveaboard but it fits the peaceful island vibe. Weather was tricky but the people managed it well. Food was great both on the liveaboard and at the resort and it was good the food was different also, good for a change after a week of liveaboard. Special thanks to all everyone for making me feel like special. Top class service from picking me up from the airport to dropping me back off and saying goodbye.

We visited Komodo Resort in April with 3 generations of family - my siblings with partners, my parents plus our own 2 young daughters. Everyone of all ages had such a lovely time. The resort is gorgeous and the staff are amazing. Dive team are fantastic and always try to accommodate your dive preferences/interests. You can swim/snorkel straight off the jetty and there is even a small boat to take you out so you can basically float back with the current (and the boat driver will stay near to you which made me feel safer swimming with both young daughters). I feel very lucky to have been able to dive at such beautiful dive sites. You can order your food for particular times if you are worried about rushing before a morning dive or hungry after a night dive. The food was all yummy and enough variety. Yes things do not run smoothly 100% but all very minor things that can happen anywhere. We were a little bit apprehensive about coming to Komodo with 2 young children but we absolutely didn't have to be - Komodo Resort has everything you need and the big box of toys on the deck at the restaurant was also a life saver. A special mention to the lovely restaurant staff...they all work very very hard and always with a smile. They would always play with our kids when they had a free moment, even making them paper aeroplanes day after day! Everybody is working very hard here - from friendly management staff who knows every guests name to the guys dragging your luggage/dive tanks through the sand. We hope to one day come back.

My friend and I spent a phenomenal week aboard the Komodo Sea Dragon, thanks to the exceptional hospitality provided by Jello and his crew members. Diving: The dive masters were all highly experienced and knowledgeable. The briefing before each dive was comprehensive and the site maps were skillfully drawn. For reference, we were rookie divers with ＜50 dives when we boarded, but always felt comfortable under water, even at the sites with stronger currents. Be honest with your dive master about your skill level; they also provided constructive feedback that helped us improve. Non-diving activities: We had a few excursions on land, which included Padar island sunrise trek, Komodo dragons tour, chilling at Pink Beach, and hanging out at the Komodo Resort. They were all well organized and the guests were accompanied by a few crew members each time. Food: The meals were freshly prepared each day and consisted of a variety of Indonesian and western cuisines. There were plenty of protein, carbs, fruits and vegetable options. Most of the guests onboard had low spice tolerance, which they accommodated while making sure the food was still tasty. When I got sick mid-way through the trip, the chef cooked special meals for me. Rooms: We chose the mid-sized cabin, which easily fit two large open suitcases with space to spare. The beds were super comfortable and the housekeeping staff cleaned the rooms everyday. Although the showers had hot water, it does become more lukewarm if everyone is showering at the same time - usually after the last dive and before dinner (this might be common on all liveaboards). The room came with the necessary amenities - towels, microfiber towels, hand soap, shampoo/conditioner, body lotion, hair dryer (I have long hair and it works quite well), different types of outlets for electronics (very convenient). Service: All the crew members were polite, friendly, and attentive. They were easy to chat with and they occasionally play the guitar. :) The dive boat and the nitrox compressor had some technical issues during the trip, but the crew proactively addressed the challenges. I had a great experience on my first liveaboard and would highly recommend the Komodo Sea Dragon. Komodo was an amazing diving destination and I can't wait to be back for more adventure! Pro-tip: Make sure to come with lots of energy and be prepared to dive 3 - 4 times per day, for a total of 21 dives in addition to the land excursions.

Best part of the stay This is an absolutely underrated gem. The resort is situated on the island of Sebayur (45 minutes by boat) from Labuan Bajo (Flores airport) and in addition to being the gateway to a UNESCO Heritage site, has an incredible house reef teeming with life. Just standing at the jetty and peering into the aquamarine waters, you can see batfish, jack, parrotfish, trumpet fish and angelfish; not to mention some beautifully exotic crabs (one with purple legs and a leopard skin pattern on it's back, we nicknamed the Versace crab). It was especially great for my 3 year old as she could see so many different types of fish she had never seen before just by standing on the jetty and this pretty much turned into a daily ritual after breakfast. Getting there- We stayed at Bali overnight and took a morning flight to Labuan Bajo (Flores Island) via Batik Air (surprisingly roomy and comfortable flight, compared to the hell of our Jetstar flight from Australia). The resort arranges for an airport pickup. If you arrive early, you can stay at the resort office in Labuan Bajo near the port. The staff there were very friendly and attentive. There is also a store called Mixue right opposite the office where you can get some fresh lemonade (it's safe) for less than a dollar. A private speed boat to Sebayur departs around midday and the staff will get you to the boat on time. The island- The highlight of the island is the reef and as I mentioned above, it is amazing. Not so much schools as clouds of fish in every direction. There can be quite a bit of tourist traffic through this area and I had tamped down my expectations as a result but it was probably the best house reef I have seen. The Cove in Raja Ampat which I have also visited, also has rich waters brimming with life but it is/was a pretty untouched location when I visited in back in 2019 and the house reef itself was much smaller. To find something so intact here was nothing short of uplifting, both in the numbers and variety of fish and coral. The resort also offers a guided night snorkel expedition and I would highly recommend it as well although it may not be everyone's cup of tea. In 7 days of snorkeling, I saw turtles, several species of damselfish and angelfish, titan triggerfish, Moorish idols, grouper (night snorkel), blue clawed lobster (night snorkel), batfish, wrasse, coral trout, parrotfish, surgeonfish and sweet lips to name just a few. It's also nice to canoe in the lsland waters. We took our 3 year old out for a paddle while she listened to her favourite Moana songs. Apart from the reef, it's also worth climbing to the top of the island to take in the sunrise over the bay. Accommodation- The accommodation consists of individual raised Moana-style cabins. Right opposite each cabin and adjacent to the beach are a pair of pool lounger chairs under an umbrella, looking out over the water. THE BEST RESORT EVER, specially for divers, but not only for divers. This resort is one of the best organized resorts I ever met.....and I saw hundreds of then around the world. Let me give a few examples: 1.We were here now for 5 days - 2 couples - that have seen the entire world during our world circumnavigations. Our wives want to snorkel on the reef directly in front of the resort. They wanted to step in the water, when the owner who was sitting and talking with us on the seaside bar saw it and organized spontaneously a staff member, to bring them with a tender boat to the best spot on the HOUSE REEF and to stay with the boat in the water to be available for any help needed, due to the currants in the water. 2. We were welcomed as if we were meeting our best friends after years again by the whole staff, the front desk manager Herry and also by the owners. 3.the food is really excellent and the staff incredibly well trained, we felt really at home, because everybody was really 100% dedicated to give us the best holiday experience possible. After 4 days in the resort, the owner came around to our dinner table and offered us some drinks and suggested to organize for us exclusively fresh grouper and lobster from the daily fishermen's market ( 8 miles away ) - - - this was not a 4-Star-Service , this is almost Burj-al-Arab level....... 4. We had a fantastic dive tour with all you want to see: White tip reef shark, turtles, moray eel, fantastic coral gardens and to top everything:flying mantas in the currants of manta point dive ground. 5. Of corse you can also go from here to the Komodo islands to see the famous Komodo Dragons .......or just relax on the cosy sand beach in front of the resort. To say it in short words: THIS RESORT IS REALLY WORTH COMING TO INDONESIA !!!!!! Thanks to you all of the staff and the owners....as Arnold Schwarzenegger would say: I´LL BE BACK !!!!!

The trip was absolutely unforgettable! We spent seven incredible days aboard the boat, diving into crystal-clear waters, hiking to breathtaking viewpoints, and enjoying the wonders of the islands in Indonesia... 1. Diving and cruise design Jello, the Cruise Director, was the heart and soul of the trip. His enthusiasm, knowledge of the area, and attention to detail made the whole experience feel seamless. He was always available to answer questions, offer guidance, and ensure everyone enjoyed the trip. By the way, the diving was spectacular! The waters around Komodo are teeming with vibrant coral reefs, colorful fish, and also manta ray or reef shark. The dive instructors were professional and patient, making sure everyone felt safe and comfortable, whether you were a beginner or experienced diver. Jello is my dive guide. He is always patient and considerate, protecting us from the strong current under water. Each dive felt like stepping into an underwater wonderland. I really enjoyed it. 2. Food The food onboard was nice! Every meal was freshly prepared, with a variety of dishes that catered to different tastes. The chefs did an excellent job of keeping things interesting and delicious. 3. Cabins The cabins were cozy and comfortable, and the rooms were kept clean throughout our stay. We had plenty of space to relax and unwind, with windows offering scenic views of the sea and surrounding islands. 4. Crew The crew was incredibly friendly and professional. Bonne, Max ...everyone was attentive and went out of their way to make the trip enjoyable. They were always ready to lend a hand and made sure everything ran smoothly, from dive preparations to meals. Everything about the trip was perfect. I highly recommend it for anyone looking to experience the magic of Komodo!
