Having visited all the Evolve Back properties across India (Coorg, Kabini, and Hampi), I’ve come to expect a certain gold standard—one that combines comfort, nature, and impeccable human touch. Evolve Back, Coorg, delivered much of that charm yet again, though this stay came with a few more hiccups than usual. What We Loved: The highlight, as always, was the staff. Their professionalism, warmth, and proactivity are hallmarks of the Evolve Back experience. A special thank you to Sinchana, our point of contact, who checked in with us daily, ensured we were always comfortable, and even handled our dinner reservations without us needing to ask. Our Lily Pool Cottage was excellent—beautiful indoor and outdoor spaces, with top-notch housekeeping that operated like magic elves, quietly making everything perfect behind the scenes. We thoroughly enjoyed the boat ride and the plantation walk—both thoughtfully curated, immersive experiences. Gopal, who led the plantation tour, was a standout. His encyclopedic knowledge, storytelling, and sensitivity to the group’s needs (including kids and seniors) made it unforgettable. Similarly, our boatman (whose name I sadly missed) was a quiet expert—navigating the waters with ease, spotting wildlife, and helping us get a stunning view of a blue kingfisher, among others. Dining across the resort was generally good, and we were especially impressed by the staff at all three restaurants: The Granary: Great service, with Goutham being particularly attentive and considerate. Peppercorn: Courses flowed smoothly and the team explained dishes with care. Plantain Leaf: A big thank you to Ebrahim and Vinoo, who ensured we were fed even though we were late for breakfast—they were gracious and welcoming. Coffee tasting with Jenny and Cheluve Gowda was another memorable session, as was our time at the Nature Shop, where Shivappa patiently answered all our questions—no matter how trivial they were! Lastly, a huge shoutout to Shyju and the team who supported me when I misplaced my phone. They were incredibly proactive, even alerting local authorities in case I wanted to escalate things—true service from the heart. What Could Be Better: The water purifier in our room wasn’t working on arrival, though it was fixed quickly after we flagged it. The food, while still good, didn’t quite match the high bar set during our previous visit. A few times, the fruit at breakfast (Granary) seemed overripe or past its prime. A troop of monkeys created some chaos around our private pool. While this isn’t entirely within the resort’s control (we are in the midst of nature, after all), it’s something guests should be aware of. Traveller Tip: Bring your own mosquito repellent if you're particular about brands. The resort provides Odomos on request, but options are limited.
