Richard Hickey met us at the door and gave us his you never booked but come in anyway look . We enjoyed the curry and warm brown bread and settled on wild cod for me and turkey and ham for pat . I’m not going to go through my cod dish as only a picture could do it justice Portions were large so we asked Richard if we could bring the doggy bag home . Suffice to say the madra x by 8 got dinner but not from the crumbs of Alan foleys table . The desert was divine more than enough for both of us . As usual all the staff were more than professional. Next Sunday Richard keep a table .

A Memorable visit for all the right reasons This was our third occasion to stay at the Step House and once again it was a very good experience - the hotel oozes character and is attractively presented throughout . The hotel is spotless and clearly well managed - staff are well trained, courteous and pleasant - the food is excellent too as is the service which is invariably delivered with a smile. Borris is a great location from which to explore the midlands and as a base to do so, the Step House Hotel is ideal.

Large quiet comfortable superior room overlooking the garden from a shared balcony. Good sized bathroom with lovely bath products. Breakfasts were tasty with limited cooked options but fresh orange juice served.. always a bonus. The evening meals were served in the bar area and again there was a limited pricey menu choice but our seafood chowder was delicious as was the home baked bread. The chef is clearly talented.

We had our wedding here and it was stunning. The food was amazing, the rooms so comfortable and spacious. The portions and wine was so generous. The staff were extremely helpful, kind, courteous and easy to deal with both on the day, at the tasting and during the whole planning process. We couldn't have enjoyed it more or could recommend it highly enough, for a meal, a drink, a night's stay or a wedding day. An absolutely stunning location, beautiful venue and thoroughly relaxing experience. We chose the venue due to our consistently positive experience here over the years and fond and happy memories here both for meals, drinks and enjoying the annual festival of writing and ideas. Also very good value for money.

The rooms are amazing the views of the Blackstairs is stunning. Wonderful place to relax looked after by attentive staff and enjoy first rate meals. From the breakfast to the scones at 11 to the chowder for lunch and delicious cod for dinner .. we will be back… for longer next time!

Celebrated our anniversary with friends in this cantata family run hotel friendly attentive staff and amazing food in the Restaurant. Venison cooked to perfection and cod that melted in your mouth. Would highly recommend this spot… We will be back to stay next time

Another fabulous stay at The Step House hotel in Borris. We absolutely love this hotel - the food is excellent - beautifully presented by friendly and efficient staff who go out of their way to ensure that the stay is perfect. We have also been during the Summer months when the garden is in full bloom and it is a pleasure to sit there - to listen to the birds singing and to admire the flowers whilst sipping a glass of wine - definitely one of life's pleasures.

Had dinner in the bar. The restaurant had no bookings on the night we visited so we didn't want to be dining on our own. The restaurant menu was available in the bar. I had wild venison (€38) - this came with no veg so I ordered a portion of seasonal veg (€4.50). The seasonal veg turned out to be green beans and nothing else. Somebody is having a laugh here!!

The Hotel accommodation and Staff were just superb, the atmosphere was simply so relaxing and I can state that we were all appreciative of the service provided. The surrounding countryside and views from Mount Leinster added to the joy of our stay at Dtep House
