Treghan Luxury Lodge

The unit is beautifully furnished and the owners have thought of everything. Breakfast supplies were perfect and the fruit basket I ordered was amazing. We loved it as a base to see the north of the North Island and we’re only sorry we couldn’t stay longer.

The hosts were very friendly and accommodating, and no complaints about the property itself - very nice amenities! Premium coffee, fruit, and some other breakfast items were available in the houses, complimentary. The location is also not far from everything we wanted to do.

We stayed at this property for five nights to explore Kerikeri and the Bay of Islands. We had a rental car and with that the location was a good "home base" to make day trips from there. We were in one of the bungalows/small homes with two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a kitchen. There is also a covered carport attached to the building. The accomodation was new, clean, off the main road going into Kerikeri and surrounded by greenery. Breakfast provisions included granola, milk, yoghurt, bread, butter, marmelade and a fruit basket - "the provisions" and the towels etc were replenished after two or three days. In the kitchen, all the tools and machinery was available for us to prepare our breakfast, including a hot water kettle, an espresso maker, and a dishwasher. All in all a wonderful location but we made the assumption of the lodge being a typical B&B where breakfast is prepared for you and you do not have to make it yourself. Also, be aware, there is not much space for manoeuvering the car to park it in the carport, which may be an issue when you have a large SUV or small truck. To conclude: Infrastructure comes close to being five star; given it is more a DIY for breakfast, I rate it as a four.

We stayed here for four nights in the Birdsong Retreat Villa during our visit to the Bay of Islands. The property grounds are absolutely lovely and by second to none. Everything about the lodge exceeded our expectations and we wish we could’ve stayed longer. There is even a garden that one can explore - great for a child just learning to walk. Anne and Murray go out of their way to assist so I am glad to see just how highly ranked they are on TripAdvisor as they truly deserve it! Misc. Logistics: Laundry machine is great and they have an outdoor drying rack with clothes clips. Fridge is decently sized and the kitchen countertop is sufficient for preparing a daily breakfast in the unit, vs. buying something at a random restaurant.

What a wonderful stay. We were amazed at the luxurious interior, and loved the welcoming delicious platter of cheese, fruit and bubbles. Gracious hosts, very kind and informative! I would happily stay again. We shared the love by inviting whānau for tea, the kitchen is well equipped to cope with hosting dinners or lunch.

Well appointed accommodation. Spacious rooms, light and bright living areas with great views. The hosts make it though, nothing was a problem, and plenty and great local recommendations for food and activities. Perfect for our golfing getaway.
