Cliff at Lyons

Lovely Sunday night stay in mid January as a couple and loved it so much I went back in February with a friend for a Wednesday night special. I’ve stayed here a few times over the years and never got round to writing a review. If you want a relaxing high quality break this is the place. Wonderful setting, lovely rooms and great staff. The Mill restaurant is excellent for dinner though not as good for lunch. Perhaps more casual dishes might work for those who want a bit more than the pantry. Love the spa - had a fabulous massage in January genuinely one of the best back massages I have ever had, incredible staff and the relaxation room is a lovely setting. Service can be very slow in the bar is my only gripe. Each occasion have had to go and search out staff. However, the bar is so cosy and the fire is such a draw. Absolute haven and will return ASAP!

We had pleasure of staying at this charming boutique hotel, and it was an unforgettable experience from start to finish. The standout feature of the hotel is undoubtedly its fantastic restaurant. The menu offers beauriful dishes, prepared with the freshest ingredients, and each course was fantastic. The cheese cart was especially wonderful. The ambience in the dining area was warm and inviting, and the staff were friendly and attentive. There were some mistake with our order and bill but these were quickly rectified. The bar with its wood burning fire, is a cozy retreat, perfect for unwinding after a day of relaxation. We especially enjoyed the spa, the treatments are luxurious, and I highly recommend indulging in one of their signature therapies for a complete rejuvenation. One of the most unique aspects of the spa is the copper bath experience. It's a truly indulgent and memorable activity that adds a touch of opulence to your stay. The copper tubs are not only aesthetically stunning but provide an incredibly soothing experience, allowing you to completely unwind and relax. After the baths we enjoyed sorbet and herbal tea by the fire in the relaxation room. Overall, this boutique hotel excels in every area, offering a perfect blend of comfort, luxury, and exceptional service. Whether you're looking for a peaceful retreat, a culinary experience, or a day of pampering, this hotel has it all. Highly recommended!

This is, in my opinion, the best boutique experience in Ireland at the moment. The character, the architecture, the nature, the staff, the spa, the food, the rooms. It is all a touch above class and so naturally relaxing. We spent my partner’s 30th birthday here and couldn’t fault a single element of the stay.

Cliff at Lyons is a real experience. The setting is unique, a village of comfort, time warp but with modern comforts. Each building is different within yards and gardens near channeled water. We stayed near the Lily Pond. Our bedroom was very comfortable, lovely old style furniture, a fine bathroom. The Mill Restaurant was excellent and should not be missed. Excellent breakfast in the Orangery. It is necessary to go outdoors to access facilities so take the weather into account when planning. Each building was well equipped with stock of umbrellas. Staff were excellent, very helpful and pleasant.

Things we didn’t like: Checked in at 1:30pm with treatments booked for 2:30pm but couldn’t access our bedroom. We had to open our case to get our swim wear and carry it to spa outside reception. The spa thermal treatments are outside in cold and wet. On completing massages we were brought to the relaxation room for sorbet and teas which is lovely but the fire was out and the room was cold. In deciding to go to our room we had to put our clothes on to go to a separate building in the elements. After a spa treatment I would liked to stay warm and move in my robe to my room in comfort. This was not possible as you could not take the robe from the spa and you had to walk to another building in the cold. We could not take a shower as the bathroom would have flooded. We had to put towels down. This is poor and extremely dangerous. On check out staff suggested this was a drains issue - no it is a design issue. The hotel is a cute concept but practically it didn’t work for us, it is too disjoint and doesn’t put guest needs first. It is style over substance. We liked: Our massage treatments were lovely. The food was excellent. The hotel buildings look cute possibly a nice wedding venue in summer. But not spa break in winter.

I cannot recommend the Cliff at Lyon’s more. From start to finish our stay was fabulous. The staff are amazing, the room was spacious and luxurious. The food is delicious, the spa is peaceful and the surroundings are gorgeous. We had a relaxing night away that felt like longer.
