We stayed one night at the Hampton Inn between our Monument Valley visit. It is a long drive and that was the main reason for us to stay here. There are not a lot of options to stay between Monument Valley and, say, Flagstaff, and so the Hampton Inn in Kayenta was our best option. We did not experience unfriendly staff, as other people remarked. But as others pointed out, we also felt wary because of the parking permit that was to be left in the car. There is an outside seating area that was clean and had a friendly atmosphere. The breakfast was better than the standard and the lovely hard-working Navajo man in charge was incredibly attentive and helpful. The fruit was especially nice. The room was clean and we liked the decorations everywhere. There was a refrigerator in the room and a microwave near reception for everyone’s use. There is an integrated shop and restaurant where Native American art and cuisine can be experienced. But at the same time, we think it is a little overpriced. No regrets, but the price did sting a bit. Due to a lack of competition and high demand of tourists in the location, the Hampton Inn Kayenta can ask for higher prices than the actual value would be elsewhere. But since Monument Valley was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for us, we decided to pay for safety and comfort of the location (and our car’s security) rather than driving all the way to Northern AZ in one day. Oh and The View seems to be a bit of a worse offender with respect to our version of price/value.
