Telunas Beach Resort

Having the right expectations is really crucial here. If you are a couple seeking luxury, you will probably be disappointed. But if you are a couple or family looking for a great outdoor vacation, you’ll likely enjoy yourself. We are a couple and had sought a luxury resort vacation. We had high expectations and Telunas just isn’t that. Initially, it is a journey to get there (1-1.5 hours) from Batam, which involved waiting for a public ferry (which was fine, but note that it was not air conditioned and smaller than the big ferries between Singapore and Batam) and then getting into a small wooden and open boat to take you to the island itself. We were aware of the time, but ultimately didn’t find it worth such an extra out-of-the-way trip. Next, the staff, while extremely friendly, are not really trained to provide service. It is both difficult and painful to describe our poor experience with the service. Difficult because they are very eager to please, but painful because we just didn’t enjoy the service. (Sometimes, we felt that we were there to ensure that they felt good about their service as they continually sought reassurance, and it’s tough to give honest feedback to people that are so friendly.) There also didn’t seem to be any more senior management, as everyone was relatively young. One morning we alerted them that we’d be skipping lunch (as we were attending the cooking demonstration late morning), and then later that afternoon, various staff inquired at least 3 times about why we hadn’t been at lunch and that they had been expecting us (including coming to our room late afternoon to let us know that they didn’t understand why we didn’t come to lunch). It was like we had somehow inconvenienced them. The most accurate way to describe it was that it felt like a summer camp with expectations that the guests would take part in the camp activities, and any deviation from the expectations really puzzled the staff and resulted in some verbal pushback. There also was little communication between the staff members, so you would be asked the same things multiple times by the staff, often within a few minutes of one another (like whether you are coming down from breakfast or having it in your room, for example). Overall, the place could benefit from “hospitality training.” We had a “ridge suite,” and the climb to our room was staggering. It was up a long, winding ramp (500m?), and was very steep, which meant that you had to be quite careful going up and down the ramp (stairs would have been much easier), and the ramp was fairly slippery when wet. We estimate that the climb up to the ridge was about 15 or 20 minutes, while the climb down was probably 10 minutes. We have to wonder if they have guests that literally can’t make it up to the room. We hated the climb and the descent. The room was very nice with a comfortable canopy bed (with a ceiling fan inside the canopy, which was a very nice detail), and good AC, but

Our stay at Telunas Beach Resort was wonderful. The moment we arrived, our kids found friends to play with - literally within minutes of stepping foot on the property. This immediately set the relaxing tone for our entire stay. The beachfront location is stunning, with crystal clear waters and a peaceful atmosphere in splendid isolation. Staff were very friendly to us and our kids, and the accommodations provided the balance of comfort and rustic charm. If you're looking for a family-friendly destination where kids can safely enjoy themselves while parents unwind, Telunas Beach Resort delivers. We'll definitely be returning!

All the staff is very friendly and personable. Food was tasty and the chef catered to gluten free diet really well. Awesome rooms, wonderful views, amazing beach (with lots of cute crabs and hermit crabs, so fun for kids!), super fun activities. All was great, was our 2nd time and we will definitely go again.

We spent three nights at the resort. The booking went smoothly and detailed for pick up - everything was on time. The staff was very supportive, friendly and knew all names (incredible Shiva!). All the staff and our guide Elfredo were so helpful and organized a great fishing trip, shrimping and would even play with the kids. The fish the kids caught was prepared from the cook right away. A really great experience. The Bungalows were clean and the showers really nice with a beautiful view out from the balcony. Only for snorkeling or diving it's not recommended, but we knew that in advance.

Absolute gem of a place. Everything was wonderful. The staff are so attentive, bungalows are gorgeous and the views! Stunning. Beach took us back to travelling in SE Asia 30 plus years ago. We didn't have to think for a week. It was just what we needed. Thank you to everyone at Telunas.

Serene Environment; Entire crew was super-friendly and always with a Smile; Overwater Bungalow was spacious and clean; View was Superb; Beach was clean with crystal clear waters; Food was excellent; Many activities to keep you engaged; Had a good short conversation with the Owner himself- Mr. Mike; Lastly my Toddler was not willing to leave the resort !
