Lankavatara Ocean Retreat & Spa

This has been one of my favorite experiences of travel I’ve ever had (and I’ve traveled a lot)! The rooms, grounds, food, pool and beach are so beautiful and relaxing. But mostly it has been the staff that has made our experience what it has been, we even decided to stay a couple days longer. Gimbal, Nimesh, Vihaja and others were so kind and friendly and went well out of their way to ensure we had everything we needed. They learned my son’s favorite foods and accommodated for all meals, they made him a beautiful cake and decorated our room for his birthday, showed us how to make our favorite dishes, and overall have made us feel more welcomed than I could have imagined. I would come back to sri lanka just to stay here again.

The setting of this resort is simply stunning. Set on miles of beaches with no other resorts in sight. There are crashing waves that are great fun and a nice pool. The service was very attentive and they do all they can to make your stay comfortable Food was great both at breakfast and dinner

Our second visit to Lankavatara SPA Hotel surpassed our expectations! Returning after a year, we were greeted by the same serene beach, the warmth and hospitality of the Sri Lankan staff, and notably improved culinary experiences courtesy of the kitchen team. Our room nr. 8 (Front ocean view) was as clean and well-maintained as a year ago. Anousha – the best masseuses in the world – still works at the SPA, and the overall vibe of the hotel is as relaxed but attentive as before. It seems the kitchen staff has changed, so the consistency, flavours and quality of food of the main restaurant have massively improved. Unfortunately, the beach did suffer some erosion during the heavy rains of the 2023 winter months, causing parts of it to collapse and wash away. This is a regrettable occurrence, not only for the natural beauty of the area but also for the local fishermen who now face increased challenges during their daily fishing trips. However, despite these changes, the wilderness experience remains unspoiled—the empty golden beach stretches endlessly. We loved it here, and highly recommend the hotel to other travellers.

I was only able to stay at this gorgeous hotel for one night but everything from the informative and helpful checkin to the restaurant’s delicious food was top notch! I got a massage twice at their lovely little spa (also reasonably priced) and ate two dinner meals and breakfast at their restaurant- it was all of excellent quality, tasty and fresh. The staff was so kind and helpful - assisting me in my transportation needs beyond the area. The rooms are super comfortable, clean and nicely decorated. Sure it’s a bit more but you get what you pay for! Great choice on a beautiful out of the way beach in Sri!!

We chose this hotel on purpose because we loved its position! Not so many people, not in the city, just a big empty beach, and one this smaller hotel, quiet, ideal place to relax! We stayed here in Novembere 2023 as group of 5 people and we were relaxing there after traveling around Sri Lanka and I have to say we really rested here. The location is really like in paradise! The hotel is comfortable, airy, cleand and everybod was so nice. The best place to relax. One group had a room for 3 people on the ground floor and it was really huge room, with beautiful bathroom and kitchen supllies. The other group had a room for 2 people on the first floor. The room was also so clean and beautiful. Every day we were treated to cleaning, change of towels. The hotel is really located on the beach, where you can hear the sound of the waves as you fall asleep. The beash is empty, only sand and palmtrees. There is still a red flag on the beach, NO LIFEGUARD and swimming here is not suitable. The waves are really big and have and they have a reverse current. Sometimes we jumped in the waves, but only our group. The pool is ideal place for swimming. The hotel also offers excursions or you can try wellness in the hotel. We went for a massage and we were really satisfied. You can try cooking class in the restaurant opposite the hotel. It seems to me that there is not much around the hotel, but it is true that we did not explore it because we were only staying for 3 days. But the reception will arrange anything for you. :) We paid for breakfast and it was really delicious. You can pick breakfast from the menu - you can have eggs, granola, porridge, pancakes. Everytime you get fruits plate. We also went there for lunch or dinner and we tried tuna, curry, kottu, fried rice etc. and everytime we were satisfied. :)
