We stayed here for three nights. The property is beautiful and the rooms are very nice and comfortable. We were welcomed warmly by Leon, who showed us around and was helpful throughout our stay. The bartender is friendly and terrific. The view from the hotel is beautiful. According to the research I had done, it's one of the nicest properties on Skye next to their sister property. We didn't come away loving it though, and it's hard to explain why except to say that the service lacked kindness or warmth with the exception of the two mentioned above. * Most of the staff is young, inexperienced (maybe college kids on a gap year?) and not particularly friendly or helpful (e.g. my mother asked them to send postcards with stamps on them, and the girl at the front desk refused saying that the mail doesn't come around even though we saw the Royal Mail truck driving around the island while we were there). * The breakfast staff in the morning were slow and busy talking to each other rather than serving us (e.g. our server the first morning was MIA for so long that we had to find another server to take our coffee order and only showed up after he saw her helping us). Bannocks were also incorrectly described to us as being like Scottish danishes or flat croissants (they're actually more like unflavored fried bread, which we wouldn't have ordered). * Staff in the halls don't say hello. * Most disappointing of all was the kitchen. The restaurant uses pristine local ingredients. But the scallop was too salty, the halibut overcooked, and the beef carpaccio had a lot of elements that didn't come together. We were talking to some locals on one of our day trips, and they said they had tried the restaurant a couple times and came away with similar impressions. That said, it is a beautiful property with a beautiful view, and if you don't want to stay at a self-catering home, this is a pretty good location. One practical thing to note is that the hotel is about 30 minutes from Portree, which is the closest town and where restaurants will be. From there to the hotel, you will need to drive through a few two-way one lane passages that can be hairy particularly if you're not used to driving on the right side.
