Isla 33 Resort & Villas

You can get to any spot on the island very quickly from this resort (by golf cart). You can also walk to several shops and restaurants in La Colonias. The walking trail along the Caribbean Sea side with all the sea life sculptures is right out front. We stayed in a 3br penthouse with a private rooftop pool, unit 2404. It was very nice and clean and felt modern. The beds were comfy. With 2 living areas there was lots of space to spread out. There was pretty much a 360° view of the island with beautiful sunrise and sunsets. Two of the bedrooms and the main living area had balconies and beautiful ocean views. The second living area and the kitchen had beautiful island, inlet, and Cancun side views. From the rooftop pool, you could see it all. We thoroughly enjoyed the rooftop pool and used it multiple times every day. It was my teen son’s favorite thing of the trip. I gave 4 stars instead of 5 bc of a couple minor things…first, there is a major bug issue. I get that it’s a tropical island and bugs come with the territory, but the bugs in the kitchen are out of control. There is no way I’d cook anything in there and the bugs have also invaded the coffee maker so that’s not usable. It wasn’t a huge deal to us bc we planned to eat out all of our meals anyway. We kept snacks in the fridge to keep them safe. Also, they weren’t scary bugs like roaches….they were some type of tiny bug and some sugar ants. I will say, we moved to a condo at Ixchel for the last half of our trip (as we had planned to do, not bc we were not happy at Isla33) and I never saw one single bug in the kitchen there…and they even had pest control servicing the whole property on the last day..so….. The other reduction in stars was bc the elevator is so tiny and no AC. I used the stairs bc I was scared we’d suffocate if it broke down with us in it. Lastly, the owner of our unit had his own personal golf cart in the space designated to our unit so we did not have anywhere in the parking garage under the building to park ours. We parked across the street and it wasn’t that big of a deal. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at Isla33 and would definitely consider staying here and in 2404 again. I do hope they hire a pest control company as it is very much needed.
