The Cluanie Inn

While touring Scotland recently myself and some friends stayed here, the rooms were quaint but in a good way, the food was very good especially the Asian rice bowl and the biryani, staff friendly, a nice place to stay despite being very remote.recommended.

We stayed at the Cluanie Inn enroute from Peterborough to North Uist. We were thrilled by the warmth and efficiency of our welcome. Our room was perfect - really well appointed, clean and with a great shower. We ate in the restaurant and it was FANTASTIC. The food was beautifully presented and really tasty and the staff were fab. I can’t rate this hotel highly enough. Really great.

This was my first visit to The Cluanie for a meal since it was taken over by Black Shhep Hotels. I was pleased to find friendly staff and a variety of dishes on the menu. I had a more traditional beef stew and mash, it was extremely tasty and a good size portion with plenty of meat. My husband had chicken tikka pizza, again it was large and tasty. I was pleased to hear they serve until 2100, many businesses stop at 2000 or even 1930 in this region. Others have commented on the prices. It's not cheap, but prices have gone up everywhere in recent years and bearing in mind the stunning and remote location not unreasonable. Coffee in the Landour bakehouse was pricey though (£4.25). The atmosphere is different from the past, and in many ways it is a shame that the business is less traditional. That's no reason not to visit though. It is still a good place for a meal in a fantastic location and I will be back.

Beware of Bandits. Very expensive drinks and very poor food. Portion sizes and quality very low with prices very high. This was once a decent stopping point whilst touring the highlands . The traditional bar has made way for a soulless boutique style hotel. Utter crap, wont be coming back . Mustn't forgot to mention the service charge added to the already inflated bill..

We stopped off for a refuel after travelling around Skye. Were thrilled to see some Indian dishes on the menu. Got talking to some Australian Tourists, which added to the enjoyment. The real issue we have is, after asking for the bill and reading through the 'bill of fare', a service charge was already added. Not sure if this is the norm, but I understood that the customer was asked first!?!?!

I did not stay here but stopped to buy some tins of Sprite. I did notice that fuel prices were 20p per litre higher than everone else so perhaps should have been more aware. However I went in and bought 2 tins of Sprite. That was fine and off I went until I was going to drink one and noticed on my receipt I was charged £9.00 for 2 tins of Sprite. This is not a markup this is daylight robbery
