Parkhill Guest House

I had a single room which was clean but very basic with an uncomfortable bed. I had trouble with the shower working properly although it was mentioned by the host who didn't seem too worried about it. The property is located close to the main shopping and restaurant area which needs to be accessed by a large set of steps.

I made a reservation at Park Hill GH through a major online site, but was so busy I did not read down six pages through all the fine print. Turns out this property does not allow after hours check in. You HAVE to check in from 2 to 6 PM. If not, you will be sleeping on the front lawn apparently. I was sightseeing at Dunnottar Castle and told the owner that I would not be able to come until 10 PM, and she told me that was not allowed. I asked her what happens if someone gets a flat and comes at 6:05 PM, and she told me that in years of working with guests that has NEVER happened. I almost fell over laughing. I suggested to her that she use a coded key box for guests coming in late, and she told me I was being rude and canceled my reservation (I did get my money back fortunately). This place also screens their reviews at other sites and allows only the five and four star reviews. My advice ... AVOID like the plague. The lady running this place with an iron fist is stuck back in the 1960s.
