Jayne was incredible friendly and so helpful. After a really long day of travelling and working her professional and personal manner was exactly what I needed. The hotel is in a great location for my work. The facilities are clean and the bed is comfortable. Happy customer!

She was friendly, professional, and incredibly helpful—nothing was too much trouble for her. Jayne went above and beyond to ensure I felt welcomed and looked after throughout my stay. You know, I spend many nights at Travelodge's around the UK. I think this was probably the cleanest, most welcoming and comfortable I've used in the last year. Parking (paid) ok, very near tube to central London half a dozen stops. Area a little run down, but felt safe. Thank you

Purpose of Stay Our choice of accommodation was dictated by proximity; Travelodge was the nearest hotel to the solemn event that brought us to Ilford—the funeral service of my wife’s late sister. Arrival Experience I booked our stay online and promptly received a confirmation email outlining the standard check-in time of 3:00 PM. However, the fine print suggested that online bookings allowed check-in from 12:00 PM, subject to room availability. We arrived at 12:45 PM, hopeful that this provision would allow us some respite after our journey. However, the manager, Esme, firmly stated that early check-in was only permitted if rooms were available—an entirely reasonable policy, in principle. Yet, moments later, as if conjured by convenience, a room was suddenly ready. The catch? A mandatory £15 fee for early access. When I questioned why a charge was necessary despite clear availability, I was met with a brusque dismissal: "It's our policy." This rigid adherence to an arbitrary rule, devoid of transparency or consideration, was disheartening. Feeling deceived but unwilling to escalate the matter, I swallowed my frustration and proceeded with check-in. The Room The room itself served its purpose—a comfortable double bed, a clean and airy environment, and a well-maintained bathroom. However, the absence of basic amenities such as a hairdryer, bottled water, an iron, or an ironing board felt like an oversight. We were provided with two cups and a modest tea and coffee selection, but nothing more. While external noise was blissfully absent despite our ground-floor location, disturbances from the rooms above and beside us were an unwelcome disruption. Admittedly, this was more a matter of inconsiderate guests than a fault of the hotel. Housekeeping & Linen Service For a six-night stay, one might reasonably expect fresh linens at least once. Astonishingly, our bedding was never replaced. The hotel operates on a "Top-Up" service, which replenishes tea, coffee, and towels while also emptying the bins. We made use of this twice, only to be handed towels marred by visible stains—on both occasions. This blatant disregard for cleanliness and basic hospitality was not just disappointing—it was unacceptable. A hotel’s commitment to guest comfort should be reflected in its attention to hygiene, and in this regard, Travelodge failed abysmally. Parking Woes Parking at the hotel is both paid and severely limited. While guests receive a small discount, the additional expense feels unnecessary and may deter travelers, particularly those expecting more accommodating hospitality. Final Thoughts What should have been a simple, stress-free stay during a difficult time was marred by unnecessary charges, substandard service, and a lack of basic amenities. Travelodge Gants Hill operates on rigid policies rather than genuine customer care, making it an option I would hesitate to choose again. Would I return? Highly unlikely.
