The Tree Lodge at Sikumi

Sikumi is doing so much right! Firstly the staff are amazing. Such happiness, efficiency and care was taken. The food was good, honest (if a bit basic) fare. Thoroughly delicious. They serve dinner and breakfast, and at lunch time you can order simple things. We slept so well, the beds were comfortable, the sheets and pillows were good quality. The shower worked well, and there was amply hot water. The rooms were well designed, and while a little dated, were comfortable and well appointed. The pool was pleasant, clean and there were three loungers (a little tired) but also adequate. Check in and out was easy, and the price was extremely reasonable. The water hole is a bonus. Lots of game, and attractive and calm during the day. The eating area over looks the waterhole. All in all, this is a special place, well run, great atmosphere, and we will be happy to return. If you like glamorous, upmarket, busy pls Ed, this might not suit you, but if you are looking for a lovely, relaxing place with great people, food, animals, at a good price, give it a try.

The lodge is located in a great spot, right in front of a watering hole, which is a great attraction for all sorts of animals. We saw herds of elephants, impalas, buffaloes and baboons, as well as numerous species of birds. We repeatedly saw a family of the endangered Southern Ground hornbills and a couple of secretary birds right from the lodge grounds. Lots of species of birds on the property too. The scenery and view from the lodge is very good at all times of the day. The visit to the nearby Hwange national park was very rewarding. The staff at the lodge were simply amazing. There are only a handful of reception and catering staff 24 x7, but they do their utmost best to make guests feel welcome and comfortable, and it is not fair not to appreciate their efforts despite the limitations. We did not anticipate the weather would get this cold in April in Hwange. The family tree lodge we got did not have window panes but just curtains on the ground floor. I am sure this is great for summer, but a huge inconvenience in this weather at night.
