Ocean Surf Inn & Suites

Can't beat the location, but the "ocean view" is really from the roof, where the (minimalist) included breakfast is best enjoyed. If you expect to hear the surf lulling you to sleep at night, you need to have really good hearing, in which case the traffic noise from the Pacific Coast Highway right next door might keep you awake. If you're a light sleeper, forget the surf and bring earplugs. There is a row of houses between the inn and the beach. Diners and other services line are within walking distance along the main road in front.

I love vintage accommodations and this fit the bill perfectly. Has all the character but comes with the modern touches we all appreciate The room was spacious and clean. We had an oceanfront room which protected us from the street noise. There were two restaurants within walking distance and we enjoyed both. Boutique hotel without the boutique prices!

Great ocean view & walk to beach. Very clean, nice rooms with balcony, typical beach hotel. Shaun, the manager, helpful with restaurants, Javier also around all day with any questions or concerns. Housekeeping staff very nice & efficient. We loved the rooftop area, nice loungers, and high top tables & chairs. Always very clean everywhere on the property. We definitely would stay there again, great bang for your buck.

When I was booking this hotel, I wanted the best ocean view. I know the room I got was the best view. I can walk onto balcony and not just see the ocean but can see the waves hitting the sand. And kite surfers! My room had a jacuzzi room so it was huge. Park in the garage beneath hotel and walk to beach or 10 restaurants within walking distance. Free breakfast was decent. I’ve already rebooked for next month! Don’t forget about the rooftop patio!

This place is easy to get to, but your GPS might mislead you. Clean and well maintained. Simple free breakfast. Kind of funny manager. Friendly staff. Stayed 2 weekdays and had no problem with parking. Wi-Fi had couple of hiccups, but it worked.

This hotel is in terrible conditions. yes, it has parking, and yes, it is a minute walk to the beach. But the hotel is so old, and neglected, it feels like it is falling into pieces. You could tell that our room used to be a hallway which they converted into a room, because it had two sewage drains inside the room, and when you flushed the toilet, it would stink inside the room through those sewage drains. The floors throughout the hotel, and specially in our room, where so uneven, it felt like it was rotten. As we entered our room, me noticed a bad smell coming from the coffee machine, we opened it and it was FULL of MOLD, and old coffe, who knows how long they let that sit there without cleaning it. Never staying there again. (personel were nice, but it doesn´t make up for the actual bad status of the property).

My husband and I enjoyed our stay in a King Ocean View room with a little balcony for an extended weekend. We found the room clean and tidy and enjoyed sitting on the balcony eating the included continental breakfast (see pics of the area in the lobby where you order and pick up). Before heading out for the evening, we'd stop to watch the sunset from the rooftop terrace, which has great views. There are several restaurants and some bars within walking distance, making it so easy to enjoy the area. I loved taking morning walks on the beach and along the greenbelt area. The owners and their staff are very pleasant and helpful.

The hotel is in an okay location. Close to the beach, yes. But the area feels a bit shady or questionable. We didn't feel safe letting our kids walk around on their own. Parking is very very tight and the garage is short. We had to park on the street. There is a good amount of street parking though. The breakfast is very odd. Instead of going into a room and selecting what you would like. You go to a door and the manager is standing there. Instead of cheerfully asking what he can get you. He awkwardly stands there while you place an order. It's as if you're a naughty child that can't be trusted to get your own food. Not even your own drinks. The food was fine, but nothing special. Our room also smelled like mildew. And the window opened to an inner Courtyard so we didn't feel like we could open the window since anyone could hop through it by just removing the screen. Our door only had a lock with the knob, there was no higher lock/deadbolt. We ended up putting a suitcase and chair in front of the door to try to make us feel safer. We were in a handicap Suite. Which was fine except the shower curtain didn't touch the floor and water got ALL over the floor. One of the light bulbs in the bathroom was out. The remote for the TV was difficult to work.

This is THE surf motel to try in SoCal, period. It's one short block to the beach (relax, swim, surf, kite-surf), the rates are GREAT and its location allows easy access to the airport and all SoCal fun. Want more? It's run by the best Motel Manager I met in my 8 months on the road.
