Mountain Quest Inn

Everything about this place is great. Library, pool room, video collection, telescope in the observing tower, animals to feed, so much to do. Nice room (Greek). but one downside was the AC was way to noisy, was difficult to sleep with the AC fan switching on/off through the night

We stumbled upon this Inn as it was on the way home from skiing at Snowshoe...about 20 miles from the mountain. The 450 acre farm was peaceful and off the beaten path. The rooms and bathrooms were impeccable; even if they were decorated “over the top.” Apparently owned and operated by a small “institute” it also offered a game room, huge CD collection of all kinds of movies and a tremendous library. We are not sure what the institute pursues; but it appears to be the betterment of lives of individual humans. What’s not to like? Finally they also include breakfast at a great local restaurant! And the price was very reasonable.

We wanted a location near the Green Bank Observatory, and needed it to be dog friendly. The Mountain Quest Inn ticked all the boxes. Our room was colorful and comfortable and it is a working farm, so plenty of areas to walk the dog around the houses and along the creek. Knowing we were in the National Radio Quiet Zone, we were fully prepared to be "off the grid" while staying there. The Inn has a 14,000 book library and thousands of DVDs as well so we had plenty of entertainment. The breakfasts at Dean's Den were amazing, cooked to order, and we also went there for dinner. Everything was cooked to perfection. Would definitely go back.

We loved our "Fantasy" room - very spacious and beautifully decorated with lovely murals on the walls and ceiling. MQI does not serve breakfast or do anything other than check you in, but they do give you a daily breakfast voucher to Dean's Den which is 1/4 mile down the road. Andy the owner can make you just about any kind of breakfast you want: eggs, pancakes, breakfast sandwiches. He was not only kind and generous, he had good knowledge about what to do in the area. He'll be happy to help guide you! Andy was the best part of our stay - great guy! Regarding the "no technology zone" in the area (we had our phones off mostly) MQI has Ethernet cables to hook up to laptops, so you can access the internet that way. They also have an extensive DVD collection so you can watch movies at least. Enjoy being "unplugged" while you're here - but if that freaks you out, this may not be the best place to stay.
