The Duke Hotel

After having brunch at The Duchess Lounge Hilmarton, I then popped in to the Duke Hotel Hilmarton for a pint. I had a Hawkstone lager and I think it was reasonably priced. I didn't stay for food as I was on a rush and literally had brunch next door, but I am looking forward to coming back for the restaurant experience.

Desite being a beautiful pub and the food being ok. this place is terrible. The management could not manage this pub to save their life and rely on teenagers to run it for them. The head chef coughs all over the food and the staff cant even get a simple order correct and charge you for drinks that you never had. And to make matters worse they have staff leaving reviews and when they get a negative one they delete them as is shown by my last review which has mysteriously vanished!! Will not go here ever again.

The room was spotlessly clean and smelt fresh. The furniture is in keeping with the era the hotel was built, full of charm! The beds were comfortable and the room spacious with everything we required. The shower was easy to switch on to a temperature that suited us. All in all, it was a good comfortable stay and we will return.

We have just stayed at The Duke hotel for three days over the period they hosted our daughter's wedding celebrations. The hotel is an absolutely lovely place, the staff wonderful and the hosts Brandon and Matteo a shining example of their profession. The Duke was the first venue on our daughter and son-in-laws wish list when we came viewing over a year ago and their choice was so exactly right that there was never really any other venue in the running. This was partly down of the beautiful building and wonderful food but mostly due to the personalities of Brandon and Matteo who we just knew would always be the perfect hosts. Due to all the care and hard work by Brandon, Matteo and the team, our stay was one of the peaks of our adults lives, and the happy couple's special day was exactly what they wanted (and more!). We arrived on the Wednesday to find the organisation all in hand so we joined the locals' quiz night being held that evening instead. We met some great people, were made to feel extremely welcome and had great fun accompanied by delicious food. On the Thursday we had a big family meal and despite there being another large celebration booking in at the same time, there was absolutely no impact on the service or quality of this 5* food. On the wedding morning (Friday) there was nothing more we or the bride could have wanted - the attention to detail was fantastic and the willingness to accommodate every inconvenience unsurpassed. We all returned from the registry office to find all the guests waiting happily, having been very well attended to by staff. Here I want to give a particular thanks to Laine who worked tirelessly all day, in the heat, pandering to and catering for high-spirited guests with a big smile on her face and such enjoyment of her role. This girl is an absolute star! We are also aware of how tirelessly and enthusiastically all the staff worked on until long after we had gone to bed because the next morning everything was organised and tidy again! We all had the best day ever and undoubtedly The Duke has a great future hosting large celebration events! We look forward to coming back as guests and seeing more of what both The Duke and the area has to offer (oh, and also to visit our daughter and son-in-law!)

Bit bad- made me mates mum feel bad- wanted us out early . Alot of rude snickering as we walked by- very secretive and could hear a pin drop when they see you. Managers sending the younger girls to do their dirty work- clearly to scared to talk like actual adults. Place is full of.... rather immature adults. Paid to be here until 10 but had to be gone earlier. Not coming back here for sure. Don't book a party here- will be rushed and costs hidden! It's all in the emails you'll never receive!

We have just had a wonderful evening celebrating a birthday at the Duke Hotel. The staff were incredibly attentive, and the food was just incredible. It's our first visit, but it certainly won't be our last. We're looking forward to visiting again.
