I booked Spitzkoppen Lodge after seeing glowing reviews from influencers, but unfortunately, I felt the price didn’t match the value provided. While the setting was undeniably stunning, the overall experience fell short of expectations. The welcome was brief, with little information provided about the lodge’s activities unless I asked directly, and there weren’t many options available. We stayed for one night and two days, which felt sufficient. The restaurant staff was professional, but the food was average—our springbok dish was disappointingly dry. The rooms were clean but lacked air conditioning, making the daytime heat almost unbearable. Additionally, there’s no WiFi in the rooms—only in the restaurant/reception area—and the rooms are a 5-10 minute walk away. The starry night sky was a highlight, but we couldn’t see the Milky Way due to both overcast weather and the moon’s brightness—something to check before your visit. Activities didn’t feel worth the cost. The lodge’s bushman paintings tour departs at 4:30 PM, which we missed. Instead, we visited on our own and tipped a guide at the entrance for a quick 10-minute tour. When we inquired about the sundowner activity, we were advised it wouldn’t offer much beyond the views from the drive into the resort. In December, wildlife was sparse—we only spotted a few zebras. The heat also limits activities to early morning or late evening. While the location has its charm, the lack of convenience and value left me underwhelmed.
