Valhalla Resort Hotel

This was our first visit to Helen and we are so glad we stayed at the Valhalla!! The staff was super friendly for our entire visit. We enjoyed the champagne at check in and someone always greeted us whether we were coming or going. Our room was large and comfortable, and I really appreciated the extra towels and washrags stocked in the bathroom. (Most hotels are so stingy!) We accidentally chose the wrong checkout date and they bent over backwards to keep us in the same room for one more night so that we didn't have to come back to move our stuff. The shuttle service was also great and we would definitely use them again!! We will be back and we will definitely stay at Valhalla again!

Came to Valhalla for my reception wedding dinner last night. Called ahead the day before so they were aware of the circumstance. We were only a party of 5. When we arrived, the table was set nice I will say. Thought it kind of took a turn. As the bride, I was hoping all went well. There was only 1 server and 1 cook we were told via our waitress. Ordered an appetizer which took about 20 minutes to come (no big deal) We then went on to ordering entrees. After an hour went by, a person from our party went to check on the status of our food. It was then another 25 minutes before our food got brought out. When our food finally arrived, we had to send 2 plates back as they were cold. The waitress did apologize. We paid for a 5 star meal while the meal we received wasn’t even mediocre at its best. For a wedding reception meal, I honestly wish we would’ve went somewhere else. It’s a shame because I had such high expectations for this place.

What a fabulous resort. The staff was so friendly & helpful. Huge room with the best bathroom ever = 10' long counter with 2 sinks and plenty of room between and a shelf all the whole length below. MORE than enough space! Huge, walk-in shower with rainforest head. Great, cold AC. 2 tv's. Well-padded, comfortable chaises by the pool. Bartender who knows her way around a cocktail.

What can we say about Valhalla other than they make you feel welcomed from the minute you arrive! We loved it here! The room was large and comfortable and quiet! The staff was so accommodating including helping install my husband's handicap toilet. They have to be the nicest staff we have ever met anywhere and we have stayed at some really nice places including club level at the Ritz Carlton. The only amenity that I used while we stayed there was the spa where I got a very nice facial and pedicure. We are not golfers but there was a group of golfers there who were really enjoying themselves. The pool is small but the hotel does not have a lot of rooms so it is just the right size for the facility. The restaurant was very good and we treated our family to dinner there once and everyone thought it was excellent! We had breakfast at the bar most days and Melissa was so sweet and really took care of us! One thing I really loved was they have local artists work all through the hotel! We met the owners, the Murdochs and Miss Gayle is a local artist who encourages all local artist to participate in sharing their work with guests. As an artist, I really appreciate this as for most people it is hard to get your work out there! Bravo and we will definitely be back and highly recommend Valhalla Resort to anyone and our extended family and friends.

My husband and I booked a trip to Georgia for his birthday in May 2024. We had decided on Valhalla Resort for a couple of reasons: 1. They had an early bird special for booking and 2. We thought it was gonna be fun, being that it was a resort. This resort was expensive and not worth the money, I would have stayed at a holiday inn. This place being called a resort is a stretch for me. As an avid traveler, I didn’t see any resort qualities, minus the valet parking and some complimentary champagne upon arriving. There is absolutely nothing fun to do on this resort. They do not have games, parties or even fun people working. There is a pickle ball court, tennis court (couldn’t find it) and golfing. But you can only do this during the hours of the pro shop being open. So in the evening when the sun is still out, you’re SOL to do anything. The spa is on premise, but from the looks of it, I wasn’t impressed and did not try any of the services. There was supposed to be a Memorial Day party, which got rained out, they tried to do it another day but it was a flop. Also nothing there was included, it was 13$ for a hamburger and a bag of chips, drinks weren’t included. Being that it was a “party” you’d think something would be free or there would be decorations, SOMETHING, anything, but there was no party, even the staff were bored just standing outside talking to each other. The pool was also dirty with debris and dead bugs floating, we stayed here 6 days and I didn’t see anyone clean the pool, not once. The food at the resort is just “ok”, it’s not worth it by any means and again it’s expensive. The young man Matthew at the sky bar was great for conversation and local recommendations, but the food-not worth it. It would be great if there was any type of complimentary breakfast, because there isn’t a lot around the resort. You can go into Helen, but it is a tourist nightmare. Our room smelled like rotten eggs every single night. I did not know why or what caused this, it seemed to be coming from the shower drain or the toilet. You can’t even close the toilet because there isn’t a lid and the smell came through the door. I did mention it to staff 2x, nothing was done. We had our toilet back up as well, we did tell staff about this and they fixed it. Unclear how long it took since we were gone all day. We did a safari tour with Drew, who was absolutely great. Very knowledgeable and funny, showing us around the property, in the hopes of seeing any wildlife. That was a bust, which is fine this isn’t a zoo, but I hoped to see bears that the resort talks about so frequently. But this tour was 50$ a person, which just seems like a stretch and I’m not sure the resort is even pushing these “safari tours”, but it was one of the only things to do. Other random things that bothered us: no microwave in the room, the doors are not key card access and they randomly lock these doors so then you have to go around the front and when you get back later than 11pm t

I spent 4 nights at Valhalla in April. The rooms were spacious, clean, & comfortable as expected. The staff, however, made the trip memorable. They remembered custom orders each day & both opened early for us one day and stayed late another day to accommodate our group. They remembered our names and treated us so respectfully. Thank you, Valhalla, for making our trip wonderful!

Most of the reviews were positive, but there are a few reviews which said , over priced and bad service. I really wanted to like this hotel as the area is very special and there are really many luxury hotels here. However it was very overpriced and the service was not what I expected. On arrival and departure two "valets" just watched me lift my suitcase in and out of the car. There is no breakfast included and I really feel there should be , especially given the European feel of the hotel. But the worst thing was the noise. This hotel has NO insulation between rooms and ceilings. You can hear every single word and every single step above you. I don't recall being in a hotel in recent years where this was the case, they really needed to do a better job on the building materials. When I checked in I asked how to get to Anna Ruby Falls and said I wanted to go, when I check out I mentioned that the falls were closed when I went and the same person told me, yes they were closed for 2 days and are open today. That information would have been greatly appreciated on check in and I feel like a more service oriented hotel would have said this. If you want luxury in the area, 20 miles away is Julep Farms or White Birch Inn . White Birch Inn restores your faith in the service industry.

My husband booked this trip and was very excited as he told me about it. He said "I booked us a bungalow with a fireplace, it'll be private, romantic..." Yes, it was a bungalow with a fireplace, but literally everything was gray. Gray carpet, gray walls, gray furniture, gray bedding, gray bathroom...gray, gray, gray, EXCEPT for two hideous orange chairs in the living room probably added for the proverbial "pop of color." Okay, I get that we don't all have the sense of aesthetic...and that's just life. When I think of a mountain resort, I think of warm inviting colors over institutional hues...but hey, that's just me. The bungalow was quiet and private, and the furniture was comfortable. We went for a late lunch at their "fancy" restaurant and we were the only people there. The food was okay, nothing exceptional. I had a Caesar salad and my husband had a hamburger. What was interesting was that there seemed to be a lot of staff present. I counted four people (one of which I think was the manager who would pop her head out of her office from time-to-time.) The reason this is notable is that although there seemed to be a lot of staff present, service was very, very slow. I ordered wine that apparently they were out of (not joking), and the time it took to get our meal was about 30 minutes from ordering to the plates being placed on the table. It was so slow that my husband wanted to leave, but I asked him to "give it ten more minutes." I guess I was just expecting more from this "four-star resort." There was no one in the gift shop when I was shopping, the service at the restaurant was painfully slow, the bungalow was done in shades of institutional gray and the room cost $450 a night PLUS a "resort fee." I read through a lot of reviews of this place before posting mine and it seems management responds to negative review by saying "if we would have known..." Well, sometimes you can't fix what's wrong and on top of it all, you're on a getaway so you really don't feel like complaining about the missing elements that keep your trip from being great. If you're reading this review, I encourage you to read the one and two star reviews as these seem to be the most factual. Yes, the staff there is pleasant, but they are slower than molasses for the simplest of tasks. The only one who really seemed to have it together was the older valet guy. He got it--service with a smile, and quick. The rest of them? Sigh. I wish I could tell you I loved this place and it was worth every penny, but sadly I didn't love this place and felt it was overpriced.

 I had to upgrade to a bungalow to accommodate 3 adults. I called the resort several times including the day of arrival to make sure my bungalow was set up for 3. I specifically asked that we have 3 robes in the room and was told they don’t have robes.  When we arrive we found 2 robes and 2 pairs of slippers in the room. We also had 2 coffee cups, 2 bottles of water, 2 cookies, 2 glasses that that we had to share.   We were not able to use the hot tub as I was told it was turned off for the winter. .  We also had to turn off the window heater as the loud noise was keeping us awake. The bungalow was supposed to accommodate 4. Not sure the sofa bed would really be comfortable for 2. On a positive note The bungalow was comfortable and clean and we had a parking spot right outside the door.
