Hotel Charlton

Looking at older reviews, the staff has much improved. They're very friendly and accommodating. I had to change my check-in time due to train delays and they had no problem with providing me with a key through a key lock box. The room I had (107) was spacious with two single beds, a desk & chair, a coatrack, and a large TV (that I didn't use). The bathroom, too, is big with a shower (careful, it's a big step up to get inside the shower!), sink, large mirror and toilet. There's a window that can be opened for air in the bathroom, as well as three large windows in the room, all of which can be fully opened. The view from the windows is nothing special - looks out onto a parking lot - and loud noises were heard from other rooms occasionally but overall it was a relatively quiet stay. The hotel is well-situated near the Underground-stop "Christuskirche" and there are plenty of restaurants and grocery shops nearby. The hotel also provides a small fridge, which is incredibly convenient. So much for the really good things. Unfortunately, there were some unpleasant things that will prevent me from booking this hotel again in the near future. The room's weren't all that clean. There was quite a bit of dust on the floors and especially in the corners. I could've lived with that, honestly, and would've even booked them again because while it's not ideal, a bit of dust on the floor is fine with me. However. I was too tired on the day I checked in (it was well past 10 PM and I just wanted to go to sleep), but on the next day, when I had more time at my hands, I noticed very small and pale ants all over the 2nd bed (that I wasn't using), as well as the bed I *was* using. Further investigation led me to several ant highways around most of the room, and even inside the bathroom. I told the staff as soon as the reception was open the next morning, and was provided with an insect spray (suitable to use indoors) to take care of the problem myself. (They offered to do it for me but I had a few more minutes and preferred to do it myself.) When I left this morning, they assured me that mine was the only room that had this problem, and that it might be coming from the restaurant below (which isn't very confidence-inspiring in said restaurant). A friend of mine stayed at the same hotel at the same time as me and in a different room and they also found ants in their bathroom. Yet another friend stayed at this hotel a few weeks back and had the exact same problem - so this is neither new, nor localised to one room. I do draw the line at having my things infested with ants, so unfortunately, until this problem is reliably and permanently solved, I won't be staying at the Charlton again. As I'll be travelling regularly to Hannover for the next few years, I'll try again some other time to see if the situation has improved.
