We recently stayed at Taj Damdama Lake Resort & Spa, Gurugram, and the experience did not live up to our expectations from a Taj property. The overall service and hospitality were underwhelming. There was no one to welcome us on arrival—no garland, no welcome drink. The managers seemed preoccupied with a corporate group and were not very attentive. Fortunately, we asked for a room upgrade and were pleasantly surprised to receive one. The upgraded room was spacious and felt newly done. However, the bathroom wasn’t clean—there was hair around the shower drain, and the shower knob was complicated with no clear markings. It only reached lukewarm temperatures until a plumber came and explained the system. Some aspects were good: the kids’ play area and its attendant were helpful, and the adventure park was enjoyable. The swimming pool was nice. High tea could be improved—there was no covered area in case of rain. Housekeeping and room service were very slow. On the positive side, à la carte food at the restaurant was quite delicious. They also gave a soft toy to our baby, which was a sweet gesture, but the quality wasn’t great—it started shedding threads almost immediately. Please stop using plastic bottles. At checkout, the experience repeated—staff remained focused on other guests, and we had to remind them about the complimentary plant. Overall, the property seems to lack the warmth, efficiency, and polish usually associated with the Taj brand. There’s definitely room for improvement in both service and management.
