Castello di Petroia Dimora d'Epoca

We stayed one night at the Castello just before Christmas and enjoyed it immensely! It combined old world charm with modern comforts, with delicious meals as well! The rooms were warm and spacious, with decor that makes you feel you’ve just stepped into a fairy tale. The staff were friendly and accommodating, addressing our many queries in the months leading up to the stay; and while we were there, granted us access to the old tower for breathtaking views. Wished we could have stayed longer. My mother and I spent 4 nights at the Castello di Petroia in July 2022. My experience was completely magical. We were visiting during a historic heat wave ( unfortunately) with highs 104 F! ) The staff did everything possible to keep us cool- taking special care to offer my mother extra fans. The rooms remained a comfortable cool temperature in spite of the heat. I would imagine during normal weather the heat would not be a problem at all as there are wonderful breezes off the valley. The castle feels like a real castle! It is like staying in a slice of history but most of the rooms are quite modern. The grounds are beautiful with magnificent views of the hillside. The pool is lovely and refreshing- a short walk down hill from the castle. There are lovely trails to explore but since the castle is at the top of the hill-- what goes down must come back up :) The staff of the castle was incredibly kind and accommodating. They arranged a taxi to Gubbio for a day visit ( definitely recommend! 20 min away). The restaurant was lovely for dinner. We ate there all 4 nights. There was plenty variety on the menu not to duplicate. the food was delicious and very authentic---quite reasonable prices and exquisite wines. one night there was a BBQ of roasted meats ( amazing) and then a star gazing lecture. During the summer they serve dinner outside on the patio in between the castle buildings- just lovely. The breakfast is a large spread. they do not serve lunch at the castle- but i would stash away a small plate of meat, cheese and fruit in my mini-fridge for later. that was quite sufficient. I also enjoyed a morning of truffle hunting with Stella-- it was a super fun experience! It is definitely an active experience on the steep hiking trails. Castello di Petroia is one of the top places I have stayed in Italy. It is still family owned. We would see the owners at dinner every night-- it really felt like you were there as their special guest. This is the hotel to visit if you want to take in the slow pace of Umbria ( which is what it is all about!) Go and contemplate the history and beauty of this ancient land. Eat local food, drink delicious wine, hike in the hills and dream under the stars. I hope to return soon!

Il posto è delizioso, la struttura a “castello con torre di avvistamento” è medioevale ed è stato ristrutturato con diligenza e cura 35 anni fa. Tra Gubbio e Perugia è immerso nel verde a bosco dell’intera proprietà che da secoli la detiene Accogliente, premuroso, il personale è ben preparato Le stanze sono generose come dimensione e arredate con buon gusto per farti immergere nella storia € 150 una suite con tutto quanto uno può desiderare per riposare in una dimora storica Ristorante di classe e una colazione davvero completa di ogni ben di Dio Provate ad andarci
