This property is the epitome of luxury personified. My three night stay was an experience that will be memorable for years to come. The property is beautiful, my suite was very spacious, the food is excellent, and the staff are a delight. Highly recommend!

The most beautiful thatched boutique hotel set in a very peaceful and stunning location overlooking the lagoon. Heaven!! It is about 5kms outside Hermarnous so not far and taxis available if needed. Our room, The Waterfall Suite was beyond beautiful. Honestly, have never stayed in such a beautifully decorated and clean room overlooking the stunning lagoon. The bedding is wonderful, the bed huge and very comfy. The balcony area was amazing and even had a personal sauna. The pool area is again very beautiful and peaceful set in fabulous gardens. The dining/lounge/bar area is also sublime. The food was very nice. A big thank you to Kim and all the wonderful staff who without exception were warm, friendly and wonderful. They couldn't do enough for you. Thank you. I am so sorry but i have forgotten the name of the lovely lady that looked after us most days. So sorry!! We stayed three nights and was very very sad to leave. If you want an amazing and memorable experience I would urge you to stay here. We have no hesitation in recommending The Thatch House and will most definitely return. Thank you again to everyone.

We were in Hermanus for three days at the beginning of March and had an incredibly lovely stay at The Thatch House. We really liked not only the unique location on the lagoon and the peace and quiet that comes with it, but above all the warm welcome and caring service from all team members. It was more like visiting friends than staying in a hotel. Many thanks to Lynn and Rory and all the others for their efforts. The small number of rooms and the attention and care of the individual team members made the visit to The Thatch House an unforgettable experience. The variety of drinks and the quality of the food were great. We will definitely visit The Thatch House again when we are back in the Hermanus area.

This place is far beyond expectations. We have rarely been to such a calm and relaxed place. Although the house has just a few rooms (I should better say suites.) it offers lunch and dinner besides a wonderful breakfast. Stunning sunsets make the mountain behind the property glowing like gold. There is a pool, one can swim in the lagoon and for tennis and golf enthusiasts there is a tennis court and a putting green. Service is outstanding. One can feel that the team love what they do. That starts with every single waiter, the management team and it does not end with the guard at the gate or the night shift. We felt all the time welcome and perfectly shepherded. Thanks so much again. We will come back.

Such a beautiful hotel. Small and private with stunning views. Play area, tennis court, pool, hot tub, kayaks, golf. The rooms are huge and very luxurious. You will need a car to get into Hermanus. Staff very friendly and helpful. would recommend.

In a very beautiful and tranquil location lies Thatch House offering very spacious and beautifully decorated suites. We had reserved to suites Fern and Lagoon, and let our kids have the largest and fantastically luxurious Lagoon Suite. The Fern Suite was still very large and nice and while it didn't have the sea view of the Lagoon, it had a nice outdoor area with views of the impressive mountains. The hotel is made to feel more like a private house where you are a guest, and we especially appreciated that we never had to sign any bills when having dinner or ordering something from a bar. They also have a nice "honesty bar" which we never had time to try. Food was really good although not spectacular. I don't think we were more than 15 guests, 3-4 families, which helped making this feel much more homely than a regular hotel. The staff is very friendly and professional, and you get the feeling that they have fun together, which is always a sign of great places to stay. The place is a bit isolated so either having a rental car - like we did - or using taxis is a must if you want to try some other nearby places to eat or visit nearby vineyards. I can wholeheartedly recommend staying here, especially for those longing for peace and quiet in a beautiful surrounding.

A beautiful house located at the lagune some 12 km outside Hermanus; inside there are only a few luxuriously decorated suites, each with plenty of space and even additional guests or children can be accommodated. The centre of the hotel is the large lounge with two fireplaces and a breakfast dining area in the middle. Outside two terraces, one overlooking the swimming pool and one overlooking the lagune. The service is professional as well as personal; support provided to find a suitable guide to watch for whales and checked afterwards whether it was to our liking. Breakfast and diner is excellent.

From the welcome at the door to the "see you again" from the manager, the whole experience was 5 stars. The place was idyllic, quiet, extremely well kept and managed. Great food, great music, great staff, great place. I'll definitely be back!

We had the joy and privilege of staying at the Thatch House last week for the last couple of nights of a 2 week holiday in S.A. and I can honestly say it was THE perfect way to end what was quite a busy trip. We have stayed in many, many lovely hotels over the years but it is hard to put into words the feeling of peace and tranquility that you feel when you immerse yourself into the luxury of this hotel. We picked the lagoon view suite on the 1st floor which was almost as big as our apartment at home! Choosing this room was definitely the right choice because I could have sat for hours and hours just staring out at the view on that balcony (and we did). The food was excellent, the service was impeccable but the lasting feeling for me is just the peace and tranquility of the place. It really was the perfect way to unwind for a couple of days. I just wish it was closer to home so we could pop in regularly for long weekends. Definitely stay, and push the boat out a bit for the lagoon view suite.

The Thatch House is incredibly beautiful in every way. From the location, the decor, the food and the service, there is nothing more we could have wished for. Slightly outside Hermanus, we enjoyed the gardens and the peaceful atmosphere. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming.

We came for lunch. I ordered medium rare lamb cutlets, which were well done.Grey meat, not juicy and pink, which is what I was expecting. The chocolate fondant dessert was ghastly ; the mint ice cream tasted like toothpaste. This meal was expensive and definitely not worth the price. Disappointing. Position is wonderful, staff very friendly and efficient.

This was our second stop in South Africa, we stayed for just two nights and were really well looked after. We were given a beautiful room, the Waterfall suite and wow what a room this was! Lovely bath, comfortable bed, expansive living room and huge terrace balcony facing the lagoon. The property is beautifully decorated with a large communal lounge area perfect for a pre or post dinner drink. The grounds are very beautiful, we spent an afternoon playing tennis and chilling out by the pool which was a real sun trap. Followed by a dip in the log fired hot tub at the front of the property facing the lake, bliss. The staff were amazing really friendly and helpful. We certainly will return!

The Thatch House is a breathtakingly beautiful, tasteful and luxurious place on the lagoon near Hermanus, and we felt so spoiled to be able to enjoy a fantastic and memorable lunch in such a priviledged setting. We were very happy with the excellent service of the waitress and gave her a genereus tip, to only find out later that the bill automatically includes a genereus tip. The waitress should have told us so or it should have been mentioned on the menu. We felt disappointed that this happened, in an otherwise outstanding and out of the ordinary afternoon!
