Our family has been coming to this woodland holiday park for around 40 years. I’ve personally been visiting for the past 4–5 years, and it’s always been somewhere we looked forward to — peaceful, relaxed, and family-friendly, with enough going on to keep everyone entertained. Unfortunately, it’s been disappointing to see how much the park has declined recently. What once felt welcoming and well-kept now feels increasingly neglected. The lounge used to be a great space where we could sit and play games — it’s now closed and has been turned into a new restaurant. While that could have been a positive change, the restaurant is only open for a couple of hours in the evenings, five days a week. It’s advertised as serving breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, and dinner — but in reality, only dinner is available, and even that has been inconsistent. We've seen it shut by 9pm on nights it was meant to be open later. There’s nowhere else on-site to grab a coffee, a drink, or even a sandwich during the day. With no on-site shop and very limited fridge space in the cabins, this creates a real inconvenience. Due to health reasons, I’m legally unable to drive, which means I’m fully restricted to the site during our stay. That makes the lack of accessible on-site facilities and daytime food options even more noticeable — and honestly, quite frustrating. The games room has been reduced to a single pool table and a few jigsaws. There’s an arts and crafts room, but it’s only open during the day when staff are present, usually closing by 4 or 5pm. I’d love to be able to use that space later in the day — my son enjoys sensory play as part of his bedtime routine, and I’ve had to bring everything myself as there’s simply no access in the evenings. It seems like a missed opportunity, especially when most kids are actually back on-site in the evenings after day trips out, with very little to do. The pool was overcrowded and unsupervised last year, which made us avoid it this year. There’s also a tennis court and a small woodland trail that my son enjoys, plus a lochan with ducks and a couple of very small playgrounds — but overall, the park feels like it’s lacking the activity and atmosphere it once had. The accommodation itself is in poor shape. The flooring in our cabin kitchen has been broken since last year and still hasn’t been repaired. The cabin has a strong, unpleasant smell, and the vacuum cleaner gives off a rancid odour — again, the same as last year. The main door sticks badly and has to be slammed to close. Everything is just feeling tired and uncared for. What’s also frustrating is the sense that the decline might be intentional. There’s talk of owners being asked to buy themselves out of their cabins, despite having paid into the park for decades. It’s hard not to feel that standards are being lowered to push people toward that outcome — which is upsetting when you’ve had such a long history here. This place has meant a lot to our family. I still wan

From the moment I opened the door I was met by a very heavy mold smell, which never went away. I went from having one anti histamine to having four a day which did not solve the problem. Even though we went out every day I could hardly breath to the point I was gasping for breath all the time. Upon leaving I told the man on reception that “I think you have tried to kill me”. We were in chalet 27 I don’t know if the other cabins were the same but I cannot recommend this as a holiday.

We have recently stayed here a couple of weeks ago and we really enjoyed our 4 nights in lodge number 6. Yes, the lodges are a little older and more “rustic” but they are perfectly acceptable for the price of £110 per night that I paid. Other reviews state that there was a damp smell in their lodge but we didn’t find this at all. We found it cosy and a great base to explore the local area. Our daughter loved feeding the resident ducks each day and the setting is tranquil and peaceful with stunning walks around the lake. We used the pool each day, as well as the steam room and sauna which again, were well used and a little tired but perfectly acceptable. We were also able to use the facilities at the local Macdonald hotel in nearby Aviemore, but we found this pool dirty with sand/grit all at the bottom so we only went the once. We didn’t use Murdoch’s restaurant, however I did pop in for a pint on my own one afternoon. I was the only guest in there and I sat on the sofas around the corner which was out of view from the bar. I can only describe the staffs use of language and conversation (who I presume was the girl on the bar and the chef) to be absolutely appalling. At one point they were slating the manager/owner and I won’t repeat what they said but I was quite shocked that they could talk about this infront of a customer. I can only assume they forgot I was there. This put me off bringing my wife and two year old daughter back in for a drink and something to eat at a later time. Overall a decent stay and I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again.

The lodges look derelict and are at least 30 or 40 years old. There is a musty smell of age and decay as you walk in. There is also clearly a rodent problem, I opened the hall cupboard to see a mousetrap. I would class them as barely habitable, just horrible. Two very uncomfortable and depressing nights spent here, we couldn't wait to leave.

We had lodge 25 overlooking the 'lake' ... it's a bit tired but served our purpose. If you are looking for boutique accommodation this is not for you! If you are looking to explore what the Highlands have to offer ... lochs, trails, outdoor activities ... then this resort makes a good base. Travelled to Cullen to sample the 2024 national winning Cullen Skink at Lily's Kitchen Cafe and do a circular walk of Cullen Bay. Had a boat tour of Loch Ness and Urquhart Castle. Walked Loch Garten and Loch Mallachie. Walked to see An Lochan Uaine aka The Green Loch ... a hidden gem ... then did a circular walk of Loch Morlich. Drove to Grantown-on-Spey for a woodland and river walk and to visit the art galleries. We live in Scotland so brought our own food, but did have dinner in the newly opened restaurant, Murdoch's Bar and Restaurant ... Fish & Chips, Cajun Chicken Burger and shared a Sticky Toffee Pudding. We cleared our plates so the food was quite acceptable! The staff ... reception, bar and restaurant ... are all friendly and accommodating. We did not use the pool, nor the small gym ... but we did walk just under 33 miles during our stay. We were lucky, though, as it was sunny with clear blue skies during our entire stay.

Felt compelled to come and write a review. I booked, I read the reviews after and I was very nervous about my family of 5 spending 3 nights here BUT is was ok. Yes the cabin was dated, furniture and carpets could do with a revamp. However kitchen and bathroom was new and very clean, shower was actually excellent. Agree that the wooden panelling wasn't very clean and I had to go round it myself but it was fine. It was a great base for exploring surroundings, the resort itself was lovely. Friendly ducks and peacock coming to your cabin each morning. This was a good base for us, we didn't spend much time at the resort and we were straight to bed when we got home each evening. We used pool, steam and sauna and it was fine. Kids had a ball. I think you get what you pay for in Aviemore. I seemed to get a discounted last minute rate and would have been disappointed if I had to pay more for what we got, because it is very basic and in need of a bit of TLC but you don't go there to hang around and look at the dated interiors. 2 bed cabin was a squeeze for 5 of us but again not an issue as it's just some where to sleep. I would go back, we had a great October week in Aviemore and a great night sleep each night.

Having been in Dornie when mum husband took unwell and required life saving surgery in Inverness. I wad looking for accommodation near Inverness for him to have a few days recovery before heading home. This was booked very rushed, reading some of the reviews afterwards I was really concerned as my husband has surgical wounds. The staff were amazing and on arrival knew who I was. Our cabin was immaculate. I have to say some of the reviews are extremely unfair. The bedding was spotless and cosy. Some of the fixtures are tired but nothing that would cause me concern. I think people need to be mindful these holiday lodges are in the middle of the Scottish Highlands and will have families and travellers use them and so they will take quite a lot of abuse due to the weather etc. The bathroom was spotless with lovely modern tiling. Again the suite a bit dated but all clean and usable. The kitchen was spotless and well equipped with cutlery, dishes etc. Washing up liquid and cleaning clothes etc provided. Which in my experience in other properties are not always the case. We did use the heating, even though it is summer as my husband had been on a warm hospital and felt it cold at times and I found the heating to be very efficient. The sun room provided us hours of amazing sights. Deer, red squirrel, various birds, a pea hen, woodpecker, wren and of course ducks! This was the haven we needed and I think people need to be realistic when booking these types of properties. You won't get lush piled carpets are they aren't practical for the landscape and weather. We will absolutely be back. Our fur baby loved the gorgeous walks and I adored the nature. Thank you to the staff. You all do an amazing job.

**Review: McDonald Lochanhully Resort** Our recent stay at McDonald Lochanhully Resort had its ups and downs. The location is absolutely fabulous, set in the stunning Scottish Highlands. The natural beauty and peaceful surroundings are perfect for a relaxing escape. However, the cabin was a disappointment. It felt basic and tired, with outdated furnishings and visible wear and tear. The double bed was particularly problematic—it was so small that we had to sleep in separate rooms. Fortunately, there were only two of us, but this cabin would be far too small and uncomfortable for a group of six as advertised. Despite these issues, the resort's beautiful setting is its greatest asset. The tranquil environment and breathtaking scenery provide a wonderful backdrop for a getaway. With significant updates to the cabins, especially more adequate sleeping arrangements, McDonald Lochanhully Resort could be an outstanding destination.

Good value and good location but we were four adults. It’s only really big enough for three adults or two adults with two children. Had to make up a bed for the fourth person in the small room and it was cosy to say the least. Couldn’t check in until 5pm but the cleaning left a lot to be desired. Dirty grill pan and a piece of sausage left under the sofa ( we only moved it to see if it might make a more comfortable double bed!) Limited plates and kitchen equipment. OK for a couple nights but don’t expect too much. Good bathroom and heating was effective. Seemed to be popular with tradespeople looking for an inexpensive night
