Sheep Mountain Lodge

The place was very good. The breakfast was very good. There was a lot of space for four people but the dining table was for 2 people. The helicopter ride was very good and worth it for $300. But the coffee machine was not working. There was no decaf coffee. The view was very good. There wasn’t a AC there was only a heater and a fan.

We stopped here on the way from Anchorage to Valdez to break the long drive into smaller intervals but also to take advantage of the helicopter tour (reviewed separately). The place is cozy, provides excellent food, and although pretty much in the "middle of nowhere" other than the Matanuska Glacier this is a GEM! We went low K on this one as we splurged on the Helicopter tour, by taking the shared bathroom option - we had the room C - it worked out pretty well. We had a similar experience in Iceland but here even the sink was just in the shared main bathroom, so the room is solely the beds, a table + mini fridge - and... a little device that allows you to play various sounds like waves, or crickets chirping :) very relaxing!

What began as a lighthearted joke between my wife and me—"Let’s just elope somewhere remote, maybe a glacier? LOL!"—turned into a reality, thanks to Mark and the incredible team at Sheep Mountain Lodge! They expertly handled every detail over the eight months leading up to our special day, accommodating our last-minute requests for private dressing rooms (the bride had to keep her dress a surprise!) and even arranging an extra flight. Everything was absolutely perfect! The lodge itself was everything one would expect from a remote Alaskan getaway: comfortable, well-equipped, and just the right amount of rustic charm. Mark was the most remarkable Owner/Host/Wedding Coordinator/Pilot/Officiant/Photographer we could have hoped for! (Yes, he really did all of that!) His right-hand, Mary, also played a crucial part in making our day flawless. Our wedding dinner was phenomenal—the steaks were cooked to perfection, and the desserts were truly delightful! Just when we thought it couldn’t get better, we received our first wedding photos before even landing back in Montana ten days later. It turns out Mark and I both have an eye for great moments: he for photography and me for capturing the beauty of my stunning bride.
