I'm really not the most experienced traveller or tourist, so you can take this with a grain of salt if you like. But this was far-and-away the best place I've stayed at in my travels so far. The Room: My partner and I were staying in the "executive suite". It was spacious, comfortable, and well-lit - it had recently been renovated. It had a splendid view of the grounds and the forest beyond. The website rightly identified that there's not much water pressure in the shower, but we found it more than enough for our purposes. AC worked well, but during our stay we found the ceiling fans were often more than adequate. The Grounds: Beautiful and well-maintained. The owners and staff should be proud of the standard they've maintained. Flowers and trees well tended-to, pool is clean and a nice temperature though we didn't make much use to it. As an avid birdwatcher, the lane is great to stroll; there are trails running through the jungle below the resort; and there are a number of scenic viewpoints overlooking a gorge running below the resort (especially beautiful and sunup and sundown!) The Restaurant/Bar: Food was delicious! Breakfasts are standard continental breakfast fare - they are flexible dinners are usually limited to a choice of one of a couple of options, but whatever we ordered was tasty and reasonably-priced. You can also order off a larger menu when the restaurant is open for lunch. As for drinks, the owners are pretty good mixologists as well! The restaurant itself is open-air, with a great view of the pool and hills beyond. Fortunately, there were virtually no biting insects at any point of our stay. The Location: I wasn't able to rent a 4WD/AWD on arrival in Belize, and I *did* get stuck on the incline on the road in - put it up to my inexperience with steep grades! Road condition was fine, though, and after that first hiccup I didn't have any issues driving the roadway. This place would be a bit isolated if you didn't have your own vehicle, but there are a number of restaurants and points-of-interest within a short drive of the resort - just ask the owners and they'll be happy offer suggestions. On the whole, it is a tranquil location - very easy to get a good long sleep! The Owners/Staff: Well, if people are the true measure of a place, Gumbo Limbo couldn't be in better hands. Jay and Christine were true treasures - and I'm not just saying that as a biased fellow-countryman! (We're all Canadians) Extremely hospitable and accommodating, always there with suggestions for activities or just to offer interesting conversation. Christine knew her birds as well, which is always nice! The atmosphere was always cozy up at the restaurant. The other staff were always friendly as well, and the dogs - well, we loved all three of them!
