Filoxenia Hotel Monemvasia

We arrived yesterday 23/7 to find a very foul smell in the room. I thought it may have been freshly painted but my wife just could not stand the smell. We reported it to the reception girl and my wife was asked if she had a problem with her nose. She found this remark very embarrassing and very unprofessional from anyone working at the reception desk. A few hours later we went back to the room and the room still smelled like excrement. This time we reported it to the manager and he went to the room with another staff member and they had sprays with them to disinfect the room and make the foul smell go away. When they came back down they said to me that the previous people in the room blocked the toilet and that this is where the smell was coming from. THE ROOM SHOULD HAVE BEEN CHECKED AND CLEANED BEFORE THE CUSTOMER GETS THERE. IT WASN'T. If it was checked , they would have noticed the foul smell and disinfected the room thoroughly. The staff telling us that they didn't notice anything is NOT GOOD ENOUGH. And another thing, the toilets need to be flushed at least 2 times or more every time you use them,as the water coming through the cistern is not strong enough to thoroughly flush and clean the toilet. Apart from all that , this is a good hotel, close to everything , it's just a pity that I had to write such a bad review, which I believe they thoroughly deserve.

We stayed here for 11 days which is probably more than most do in Monemvasia as it is generally a short stay town. The hotel is in an excellent location with great views of the Rock. Our room (30) was big with a very large balcony and a free safe. Staff are very helpful and the hotel is very clean. Breakfast is available at extra cost in the cafe next door. the only downside here is that there is very little storage space for clothes if you are staying longer than a few days and that there is no tea and coffee making facilities available. It is possible to walk to the Rock from the hotel or there is a bus 40 yards from the hotel which takes you to the gates of the old town for 2.5 euro return. believe taxis are around 4 euros each way. would recommend.

a great room and bed.. we had a top floor balcony room, looking at the beautiful rock of Monemvasia. The hotel had a good breakfast and was in a perfect location for exploring the town with easy access to the old town of Monemvasia. The desk clerk was helpful and kind, and we found the hotel to be most acceptable

Great location, on the beachfront. Nice and quiet but close to all amenities. Parking available. Clean room. Comfortable bed. Excellent service. Will visit again for sure. The receptionist was super helpful. Thank you for your wonderful hospitality.

Wonderful modern hotel with great views of the island. Fantastic welcome and we were upgraded (out of season) and had a perfect time here, and would definitely return if we could. Good parking close by.

Highly recommend. We booked a room with two twin beds and a room with a double bed. Each room had a balcony (and a clothesline that was brilliant for a long stay.) Breakfast was very nice (let the desk know the night before.) The rocky beach across the road was perfect with free lounge chairs, tables and chairs and the ability to order food and drinks. Convenient to bakeries, markets, castle, great restaurants. Beautiful stay catered to by a kind and attentive family business!
