Disappointing Stay at Riu Ahungalla. We recently stayed at this hotel during the Vesak season (May 25th) with a double all-inclusive package. Unfortunately, our experience fell far short of expectations. First of all upon arrival, we encountered a long queue at reception. Then Our luggage wasn't delivered to our room, indirectly forcing us to carry it ourselves. A proper welcome drink is also were missing (considering "all-inclusive") Then even after booking a double room, we were initially assigned one with two single beds. It is so unacceptable because we traveled with a baby. After much negotiation, they finally offered a room change. Also the reception staff seemed so rude, displayed an unpleasant and unhelpful attitude. I was looking for the Manager. But couldn’t find him anywhere to make a complain. Then I was searching contact details of RIU hotel chain management. All the contacts numbers are directed to RIU Sri Lanka itself. Not only that, there were many amenities were missing in the room like tea bags, water bottles. We had to request them multiple times, and receiving them took a considerable time. Also while requesting, they did argue and don’t even bother apologizing for such a big negligence. The all-inclusive buffet offered poor quality, particularly in the evenings, with stale and unappetizing options like old and cheap buns. So for me, this all inclusive package seemed a little far from expected as we didn’t visit this place to consume local alcohols and spend our rest of the day at a bar. The bathroom was stocked with a single, combined shower gel/shampoo dispenser instead of individual products like shampoo and conditioner. This feels impersonal and doesn't meet the standards of a resort hotel. I felt like I was sent to hell. At that moment, I really missed my home The room surprisingly lacked a teaspoon for making tea, replaced with a wooden stick – inconvenient and not the standard expected by resort guests. Overall, this stay was a significant disappointment. The service, amenities, and food quality fell far short of what a 5-star hotel like Riu Ahungalla should offer, especially during a peak season. It wouldn't be fair to award this stay more than a 2-star rating. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to others. Considering these facts, I have sort of an idea now regarding the whole RIU chain. I would never pick any of RIU hotels afterwards whenever traveling overseas. There are other better options like Marriot, Avani, Cinnamon, etc.
