Big Game - Wilpattu by Eco Team

I was pleasantly surprised by the comfort and atmosphere of this camp. The tents were spacious and cosy, and the food provided was delightful. We enjoyed the national park safari trip although did not see many animals. At night the ambiance of the camp was wonderful and we enjoyed the company of fellow travelers round the bonfire. We would love to stay here again.

Excellent safari camp with lots of courteous and friendly staff. There are something like 15 Traditional safari tents with rather basic en-suite bathrooms, and camp beds. Very knowledgeable safari guides and lots of options: night walk, morning, evening, full day safari etc. Great value for money and exciting safaris!

Wonderful place close to the park entrance (10m drive). Nice to stay in tents for 1-2 nights for a change ! The tents have all basic amenities including fan, private bathroom & toilet. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. On our last morning we were treated to a private breakfast table under a tree with lots of fruit and local food ! They also do their own safaris (in fact, this appears to be how they started out more than 20 years ago). High-quality and good guide.

Wow, where do we start. We would highly recommend this place for safari. Firstly, the camp we stayed in was great, very ‘into the wilderness’ and the staff would go above and beyond. Secondly, the safari - wow! Our tour guide was amazing, he was so knowledgable and passionate, he was so happy to answer all of our questions. We were picked up from the airport and went straight into an afternoon safari (all arranged with Big Game). We also did a morning safari which meant we saw so many different animals. We were lucky enough to see a leopard, sloth bear, elephants, crocodiles, water buffalo, eagles and so many other bird species and wildlife. The food the resort offered was very yummy!During the morning safari they brought our breakfast with us and we ate it while looking out over one of the lakes. The national park was very well respected with much lower numbers of visitors than Yala and the other big parks. The jeep drivers also respect the animals by only staying with the same animal for a couple of minutes before moving on.

Loved our night staying at the Big Game camp! We stayed in what we classed as the ‘economy class’ tents (so not the fancy glamping side) – but we had comfortable bedding, a good strong fan and a small bathroom with hot water shower, toilet and sink. The tents are not overly large, so I would recommend just taking a small overnight bag for your 1 or 2 night stay. If you have ever been camping before, then you will realise what a convenience it is! Expect a few bugs to get in here or there (it is nature!) but its all part of the camping experience. Staff were fantastic, friendly and informative. The grounds were impeccably kept, with the evening meal by bonfire tasty and delicious! SO quiet and peaceful and just makes you want to sit back and say… how’s the serenity… We had a wonderful private safari at Wilpattu - it can be a long day as it takes about 30mins to go from the gates of the NP/entrance to the interior of the park. Recommend bringing a face mask, only to avoid inhaling alllll the dirt should you be stuck behind another jeep :) We were lucky enough to see a sloth bear, elephants and more :) A great experience!

Stayed here for one night with a full day safari on the next morning. The staff is very kind and speaks good English. The tent itself (specially the bed) could be better. It was hot inside and the fan could only be turned up to its maximum, which made a lot of noise and squeaky sounds, or be turned off. The safari was booked through Big Camp aswell and we had a great guide + driver who where very enthusiastic themself.
