My girl friend and I have just arrived home after a week on Madeira staying at The Windsor Hotel in Funchal. I will start with my complaint as not to end on a sour note. Our first morning we came down to what looked like a good, standard breakfest. breads, meats, cheeses, vegies, cereals, milk, coffes, juices and a hot plate with scrambled eggs, weiners, (processed) bacon and baked beans....BUT the food on the hot plate was cold. Have you ever tryed cold eggs, bacon and beans??? Next morning after being served cold food again, I complained about it at the receptionist counter. She said she would make the restaurant manager, Poulo, aware of the matter. We went up to get ready for our day out and when we came by the receptionist, she told me the manager wished to speak to me. Before I could speak, Poulo confronted me in a very erogent and condescending maner. I felt like a school boy being scolded by his teacher. He continued to explain to me that Portugal Cuisine mandated that the food on the hot plate be 22 degrees celsius for our own good health and well being and that he had measured the temprature of the food and it was 24 degrees and further more that the water in the hot plate was 65 degrees???? OK, why is the food cold if the water is 65 degrees? ”Generally, temperatures above 149°F (65°C) are effective in destroying most bacteria, while temperatures above 165°F (74°C) are even better and can eliminate a wider range of potentially harmful bacteria.” (you might get sick with less heat?) Not to get mad or in an argument I left him without a comment. Next morning I desided to try the hot food one more time....Still cold, but with one more complaint. There was fish in the scrambled eggs and no sign stating the fact. I know people that are strongly allergic to fish and I do complain in the strongest that there was no sign informing you of fish mixed in the food.... ” Fish allergy is an immune hypersensitivity to proteins found in fish. Symptoms can be either rapid or gradual in onset. The latter can take hours to days to appear. The former may include anaphylaxis, a potentially life-threatening condition which requires treatment with epinephrine. Other presentations may include atopic dermatitis or inflammation of the esophagus.” Now all of the positive......In all the years of traveling, I can not remember receiving a better sevice, before, during and after, our trip to Madeira with BEST TRAVEL and not to forget Jens Paulsen, our amazing quide and alle the poeple, except the restaurant manager Poulo, we met along our way. The Hotel is old and has not recently received up dates, but clean This is our second time on Madeira and very happy to say, the second time we have had Jens Poulsen as our guide. If we could be sure to have Jens as our guide, we might even consider a trip to Portugal. Next years. I am copying this and sending to Best Travel, Tripadvicer and The Windsor Hotek Group. I hope you will respond personaly to me pe
