My visit started out badly. I drove my car up to the entrance, got out, got my bags, threw out my rubbish, locked up the car and was coming in...when the person at reception came out an said " You can't park there". In English (I do speak German and my car was French). There was no: "Hello" Welcome to Fritz Lauterbad" even if the next sentence would be that they were sorry but to move the car to the main car park. There was no "no parking sign" and no apology for that. And then there was no offer to help with my bag. or actually even tell me where the parking was - I had to figure it out! I was not happy. I got back into the car, with my bag, parked it down the hill and then walked back up with the bags. second problem - I came in and was checking in to be told (by the same staff member) that the massage I had pre-booked a week before, and confirmed during the week, was not available! I asked why and was told a staff member was sick. I understand these things happen but I asked why the hotel had not told me, even by email, earlier? After I had organised my arrival and evening around the massage time. I got no apology for this. Again, I was a bit shocked. Then he said...." Don't worry though, we wont charge you". I was gobsmacked - I would have hoped I'd nt be charged for something THEY cancelled! At that point, I was almost going to ask for them to cancel the whole room and tell them I would leave. I think I would have lost 80% of the cost though, so I didnt. My third complaint is less serious - I think there ought to be some explanation of how to use the spa facilities - I had to work these out for myself, and didnt bring the robe from upstairs, then didnt know how the day beds were organised etc. I worked it out by asking people (I speak German). Overall the hotel is lovely - lovely saunas and pool, great views. And you absolutely must eat there, as the food is really outstanding. I only wish they did more light meals and snacks at the bar (do they? I didn't think so): I was on my own and sitting through a 3 course meal at a set time was probably more time than I needed to spend doing so. This is a popular hotel, and can see why given the location, walking trails and views. But the service experience I had was disappointing on that Sunday. I should add that Monday was far better in terms of check out experience; and the restaurant staff were very good and when my TV didn't work, it was fixed right away. Hence "some" service. not all.
